Our property is located on the edge of the quiet village of Ramila,in the natural park of Serra de São Mamede and just a few minutes away from the the fortified village of Marvão wich has been a site of significant strategic importance since the earliest human settlements. The property is along side a walking route, and very close to the border with Spain. A large number of birds and wildlife pass over and through our property making it perfect for nature loving guests.
We live on the property with our 4 cats and dog. We have lived here now 9 years and we love the area and the people. We came from Holland and we diceded to chance our lives and move to Portugal. We grow our own vegetables on the property so when the time is right we do have fresh organic vegetables available for guests.
The peaceful village of Ramila is situated in the natural park of Serra de São Mamede, close to the beautiful fortified village of Marvão and 20 minutes drive from Portalegre. The restaurants and bars in this area are a delight. 3ks down the road there are tennis courts, horse riding, a river pool and an outdoor pool. There are lots of fabulous walks and if you are a bird watcher you will be in heaven. Marvão has some wonderful festivals, the main two being The Al Mossassa in October and The Castanha Festival in November, the festivals are very popular and great fun. What can you see in 20km radius? Fortified village of Marvão. Romantique village of Castelo de Vide. Roman city of Ammaia. Marvão museum. River pool at Portagem. Smugglers route between Portugal and Spain during the Franco dictatorship. What can you see in 60km radius? Mérida (Capital of the Roman province, Lusitania). Fortified city of Elvas and Forte da Graça. (biggest military fortification in the world from de 18th century). Alter do Chão village where you can see thefamous lusitania horse breed, and the famous portuguese equestrean school.
