Lokavec is a picturesque village in the Municipality of Ajdovščina, located on the northern edge of the upper Vipava Valley, beneath the slopes of Čaven and Gora. Covering an area of 13.7 km² and sitting at an elevation of approximately 173 meters, Lokavec is the second largest settlement in the municipality by population, with 1,223 inhabitants as of April 2021.
Geography and Settlement Structure
Lokavec is a dispersed village composed of 16 hamlets. The hamlets of Kompari and Gorenje are as much as 4 kilometers apart, highlighting the spread-out nature of the settlement.
Natural Attractions and Hiking
Lokavec is a popular starting point for hikes to Čaven (1185 m), Otlica Window, and Otliški Maj. Hikers can enjoy panoramic views of the Vipava Valley and explore the many natural and cultural attractions in the surrounding area.
