The hotel collects a security deposit, also known as an accommodation deposit or incidental guarantee, to secure any deferred payments. This allows guests to enjoy hotel services and products, such as dining at restaurants, using the mini-bar, or booking services like limo or room service, with payment deferred until check-out. If a guest skips the check-out process without settling their bill, the hotel can use the deposit, with the guest's consent, to cover any outstanding charges.

This deposit is primarily for provisional approval. If the security deposit is made via credit card pre-authorisation, the hold will be automatically released back to the credit card within 21 days (depending on the issuing bank) if no charges are incurred.
