Nestled in Bixby Knolls, a beautiful historic LGB neighborhood, this space is a 50s modern delight. constant sunshine, large windows, garden and pool, full kitchen, and off street parking. 40 min to LA. 15 min to beaches, Queen Mary/Long Beach Aquarium/Catalina Terminal. 5 min to LGB airport. 30 min drive to LAX, Knott's and Disneyland. 2 miles from LA Metro Blueline Wardlow Station. LA Metro rail to LAX, downtown Long Beach, LA and Hollywood. City bus is a 2 block walk.
Jean is originally from Philadelphia (a Philly Filly) but has lived in and around Los Angeles most of her adult life now, so she is comfortable with both coasts. Now that her son lives in Chicago, Jean's getting to know what happens in between the coastlines! Jean can give you ideas what to explore and how to best navigate LA's crazy traffic patterns to get there... from the best surfing spots in Palos Verdes, the freshest seafood in San Pedro, to the Grammy museum at LA Live or the Getty on the Westside. She can even create a custom itinerary based on your interests if you like... A professional writer by trade, Jean has a journalism background and over a decade in marketing and PR before focusing on technical writing and instructional design. In May 2011, she received MS in Instructional Design from a local Cal State University. When she's not writing, she likes beach walks, tennis, urban hiking, and exploring the art and architecture of Los Angeles. Bixby Knolls is Long Beach’s hidden gem, according to Scott Gardner in his February 1, 2019 piece in the LA Times. Like much of Southern California, Bixby Knolls was once part of a Spanish land grant. Originally 300,000 acres given to the former Spanish soldier Manuel Nieto in 1784, but the rancho was reduced in size 30 years after Nieto’s death in 1804, and one of the portions became the Rancho Los Cerritos. Cattle rancher John Temple purchased that piece of land in 1843 and built an adobe ranch house that still stands today. His cattle business was not nearly as long lived, done in by the drought of the 1860s. After Temple’s business went belly-up, the family-owned sheep ranchers Bixby & Co. swooped in to take the rancho off his hands. Bixby Knolls adjoins Cal Heights -- Long Beach's largest historic district. Bixby and Cal Heights feature splendid custom-built homes crafted in1920 through 1950, a mix of traditional, Tudor, Mid-century, Spanish and Craftsman architecture. Many mature trees, green space, fascinating architecture and very walkable neighborhoods.
