I am part of a team that looks after Mountain Sage. I like to travel and endeavour to provide my guests with the kind of comfortable, relaxing experience that I enjoy. Peace and quiet are at your fingertips. Mountain Sage Cottage is 5 minutes walk from town, yet quiet and peaceful with a panoramic view of mountains near and far. It has several rare features: an electronic security gate; burglar alarm; free covered parking for your vehicle; free uncapped WiFi; separate bedroom and bathroom i.e. you do not sleep with the kitchenware staring you in the face and your ablutions are absolutely private. In addition, there is a covered veranda with a built-in barbecue (you can barbecue even when it's raining), a wood-burning fireplace in the lounge with some wood provided free in winter, a kitchen with microwave, stovetop, oven, fridge/freezer and all cutlery, crockery, pots, pans, glasses, and more, provided. Several kinds of tea, coffee, sugar, sweeteners, and milk are available. There are also some breakfast cereals, yoghurt and fruit juice. The decoration is vintage with an olde worlde feel. You get free shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, and body lotion. There are 2 feather pillows and 2 microfibre pillows on the bed, with 2 more soft pillows in the closet and 2 stiff pillows underneath the window seat. Also, 2 extra blankets, a hairdryer, and an oil heater. Of course, you are supplied with linen and towels. Since we have severe electricity cuts in South Africa (up to 7 hours a day) we provide one battery-operated lantern, one rechargeable LED lantern as well as several candles and matches for light. Your cooking will have to be done on the barbecue, or better still, support our local restaurants - they provide sit-down as well as take-away meals. Unfortunately, the town's water pumps are also shut down when the power is down. We have a water storage tank to supply you with water but it is still possible that you may not have running water. There are a number of 5-liter containers with water in the cottage for this emergency. There is provision for hand-washing laundry or you can use the laundry in town (24 hr service).

Clarens is a popular tourist attraction with many small shops, eateries, walks and other outdoor activities. There are two artisanal cheesemakers with restaurant facilities on farms close to town, there are several local craft beers available in town, as well as craft gins (blueberry gin seems to be very popular at the moment!). Art galleries abound and local crafts are numerous. We have four options for spa treatments, live music over weekends, an iconic book shop, a crystal shop, and lots more that you need to come and discover!
