Our celebrated sea side home, surrounded by 12km of pristine beach, is situated in a traditional Black fishing village 10 km from the "whale-capital" Hermanus. It nestles in a succulent-filled oasis surrounded by fynbos-filled mountains. Our pets - two dogs and two cats - make our life here even more beautiful.

Hi, we are a family of 4 from Berlin. In 2022 we fell in love with South Africa, especially Hermanus, a little town on the “whale coast”. Nestled in the hills of a little fisher village, facing the ocean you’ll find our villa. Our resident manager, Cosmas, is here all the time and is able to help you with almost all your needs.

Hawston is a unique community in the South African context. Its "coloured" residents, who are mainly directly descended from the original indigenous Khoi and San people of South Africa, have historically survived off the sea though these days this is possible only for some. The community is a microcosm of the class inequalities which SA is famous for with extremely poor and rich people living side by side. Although Hawston itself does not have much in terms of entertainment, shopping and restaurants, it has famous golf courses, award winning restaurants, magnificent wine farms, wild horses, wetlands, cool shops, whale and shark watching and every manner of natural outdoor activity within a 15km radius. Its an ideal and relaxed place to base oneself for a few days while exploring these jewels in the environment. Public transport to and from Hawston is in taxis which run only during the day and only to places like Cape Town and Hermanus. The taxi rank is a 10 minute walk from the house. Its advisable to have your own car if you want to get about although the walking is also wonderful.
