Ludolf & Carla Smit look forward to welcome you to our oasis in the Karoo. We have moved to this village in 2019 and we enjoy our village in the 'platteland' (countryside). We live next door with our pets. At The Bethesda Guesthouse and our on-site restaurant Bruno's at The Bethesda, we endeavour to create experiences for guests' sojourn that they will savour and treasure.

Property information

We offer luxury accommodation in the heart of the village. Our swimdam offers a respite against the summer heat and our front stoep (verandah) is perfect to enjoy country life from. Come and see the stars at night and walk the dust roads in the day and experience the charm of our village. We and our team are ready to welcome you with warm Karoo hospitality.

Neighbourhood information

We would love our guests to enjoy the charm of the village: - Stroll the streets at night with the stars as one’s compass – and no street lights in sight - Walk with one’s feet in the ‘leiwater’ (furrows) - Cross over the ‘hangbrug’ (suspension bridge) to the part of the village across the river - Stroll in a western direction, following the furrow, towards the fountain where the furrows are fed from - Toast to the spectacular Karoo sunsets with drinks at Marette’s bench with its view over the village - Walk or and hike to savour the Karoo landscape - Cycle the desolate farm roads, providing plenty array of gradients and spectacular scenery - Watch birds with a profusion of bird sightings - Drive the circular scenic drive of about 100km around Compassberg with an abundance of game to view Graaff Reinet is a comfortable 45 minute drive from the village and offers several galleries, museums and restaurants as well as the impressive Valley of Desolation. The Mountain Zebra National Park is located near Cradock, about an hour and 30 minute’s drive from here.
