Welcome to Waterberg Cottages! We feel privileged to live in the beauty and peace of the Bushveld, and we love sharing this amazing environment with you - our guests. Philip's background is as a physicist, with a particular passion for astronomy and the glories of the night sky. Since arriving in the bush 20 years ago he has taken guests on about 1000 "Night Sky Safaris" as he calls them. While you are here, weather permitting of course, do ask him to give you a short tour of the universe. Juliet is a fifth generation ''Waterberger'', a retired history teacher and talented raconteur, who embodies an inherited treasure-trove of family and community history stretching back to the late 1800's. Our cottages are set on a farm that has been in our family for over a century, and as well as natural beauty, it has a sense of history. You will see artifacts from the family all over the farm, whether it is the 100-year-old avenue of pine trees planted by Juliet's ancestors, or the original hand-held plough now resting in the garden. Nestled in the heart of the Waterberg plateau on a private game reserve, Waterberg Cottages offers its guests a haven of tranquillity, relaxation, fun and chance to enjoy the beautiful Bushveld. We offer self-catering accommodation in three cottages, varying in size, but each equipped with its own patio, hot tub and braai area. Activities on offer on the property include:: - Stunning game drives on the private game reserve which is teeming with game. This is offered as an exclusive game viewing option only to our guests. - Astronomy shows led by South Africa's Great Guides favourite astronomer - Dr Philip Calcott -Horse-riding safaris on the reserve which cater to different ability levels. Waterberg Cottages is a family-orientated establishment and we have many activities to keep the kids occupied: these include our 15m heated pool, trampoline, children’s adventure village, and sand play areas. We offer a range of marked walking trails where guests can enjoy relaxing walks in beautiful bush. Other activities include guided walks, guided birding, donkey cart rides, a guided tour of a nearby African village, and a guided tour of a nearby pioneer home and chapel, both dating back more than 100 years. Although self-catering, guests may order breakfast and braai baskets with some pre=-prepared items and some items needing to be cooked by guests themselves.

Waterberg Cottages is in the heart of the Waterberg Biosphere. This UNESCO recognised oasis of wild beauty is full of attractions for the nature lover. As well as game drives on our farm there are opportunties to see the Big 5 in the area - at Welgevonden or Entabeni. Since the area became almost exclusively dedicated to eco-tourism about 25 years ago the wildlife has flourished and the Waterberg is now home to a great number of species, including the big five. Those interested in mountain biking, may like to visit Summerplace Game Reserve or Lindani Lodges nearby. Both can provide bicycles for guests wanting to go for a spin. The Shekina Restaurant offers excellent food, but advanced booking is essential.
