It was very unique experience. This very charming traditional Japanese ryokan is within short distance from the train (or bus) station. Everything was clean and well organised there. We spent really very relaxing enjoyable moments there. It feels all very authentic (including delicious Japanese dining) and the stuff is also very friendly and welcoming. 100% worth it!

My boyfriend and I spent a day and a night here. Lovely rooms and onsens, one male, one female and one private one under the open sky. The couple who runs the hotel couldn’t be any nicer.

Amazing property with even more amazing staff. We stayed for two night during our honeymoon and couldn’t be happier with the experience. It was an authentic yet luxurious Ryokan. Our room was beautifully decorated, spotless and it even had its own onsen. The food was exceptional and the staff was very well trained and extremely friendly. Highly recommended this hotel and would love to go back on day.

Warm welcome from our hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Great location within walking distance to snow monkey park and local town. Well appointed and spacious villa. Excellent breakfast and dinner, the latter was in the form of a tasting menu so had the opportunity to explore Japanese cuisine that we wouldn't normally opt for. On our second night we had the place to ourselves so it felt very special.

Providing mountain views, Hotel Higashidate is located in Yamanouchi and provides a wellness area with a sauna and a hot spring bath.

Location was very good for skiing. Ski room locker directly opened onto slopes and the top of gondola was steps away when returning on the last lift. Have stayed here before and the private onsen room includes a private dining room with full multi course Japanese meals. These Japanese meals are very traditional and not for the western palate but are a great experience for the adventurous. The normal rooms and shared dining work but the private dining is the real treat and why I booked. The shared onsen is also very good but maybe not great if it was busy - we were the only ones there and the sauna and outdoor pool were a bonus. If the private onsen room doesn't make too big a dent in your wallet and you want to experience traditional Japanese dining then go for it.

Incredible service and incredible overall experience. It's like staying in a fancy cabin in the snow. The lounge area with the giant fireplace is awesome, very nice food, very spacious rooms and first class facilities such as the onsens and indoor swimming pool. The decor could be interpreted as dated (as other reviews have stated) but we felt this simply adds to the warmth and cosiness of the establishment. The service here is seriously next level and it is fantastic value for money.

Very good place with nice view and excellent location. The host was very kind and friendly. He kindly drove me to the money park the next morning. The breakfast was also delicious.

Everything!!! Incredible location, steps from the slopes, very comfortable room, great WiFi, rental on site - great people and equipment from Snowcan rentals - very good baths! A few meters from the bus stop. And the food is just out of this world ; and the chef is so good and such a kind person!!! Great breakfast and just amazing dinner!!! You have to go halfboard!! But the best is the people, all the staff is so kind and helpful, and the manager is the most friendly person ever!!! I had the best birthday ever staying at this hotel !! We have to come back !
