Japan is well known for its hospitality, and Shiroyamakan provides the superb and extra ordinary service. The best hospitality in our 2 weeks trip in Japan. We arrived 10.30 morning and the father took us with his van for quick tour to view point and the village. Informative and efficient tour. Back to hotel before 12 pm our room is ready. The whole family member welcome us warmly.. Room is extremely clean and spacious. Though simple it is very well maintained. The private onsen is great, with beautiful view. Dinner awesome with fine dining concept, they serve the meal one by one and explain it. Delicious variation of foods from local resources and brought to you with style. Even their small kid help bringing food for guest. He did it with style and honour. So cute. A very memorable stay for us family of 3. Thank you Shiroyamakan. Το Auberge Hidanomori άνοιξε ξανά μετά από ανακαίνιση το 2022 και βρίσκεται σε ήσυχους λόφους, σε απόσταση 10 λεπτών με το λεωφορείο από το σταθμό JR Takayama. This is easily one of the best places I have ever stayed in. And I have traveled a lot. The house is beautifully renovated, and furnished absolutely tastefully. Clean, simple lines, calm, attention to details, a Beauty, outside as well as inside. The colour scheme is warm, definitely warmer as the pictures on booking.com. The shared bath is pretty new and great. Always clean and free when I wanted to use it. The people are the heart of the house, and make you feel at home. They are attentive hosts, and they will drive you to and from Takayama at your convenience. The food...oh! The food! It's something special: please make yourself a favour and reserve the dinner. You will get the chance to taste special wines too. I had dinner two times, and they both were superb. It all felt luxurious and at the same time easygoing and relaxing. I cannot praise it enough.

We really enjoyed our stay and were amazed by both the kind gestures from our host and the beautiful care that is taken of this home on the hill. There were kind kind touches throughout the guesthouse that we were so appreciative of and the care taken to provide such to guests were so clever and nice. The location is so great for the train station (truly 3 minutes away) and we found a nice restaurant close by on the night we arrived. I would describe the town as sleepy (meaning quiet). The ability to get to the Nakasendo so easily was very much appreciated.

Well equipped kitchen, laundromat and generally nothing we missed. Well built place which is in perfect condition (looks new) and was the cleanest appartement in Japan for us yet. Location close to center. Online checkin worked well and staff was very fast responding to messages. AC in every room.

We were lucky enough to be the only group that was booked during our stay, and it was exceptional. The house offered a little slice of what country life is like but still have the accessibility to a decent sized town. The Japanese garden was relaxing, and having a little family shine out back by the woods really made the property even more special. We took the tatami room and I was afraid that it might be uncomfortable, but it was some of the best sleep I had during our trip. If you plan to take a bus there, take the H02 or H03 (Hirayu s Hiohotaka line - stop H14) and walk about 10 minutes. He property itself has 3 rooms that the owner rents out, 2 tatami rooms and 1 western style room. There is a full kitchen downstairs, a bathtub, and a separate washroom, which was a nice touch since it allowed us to do our thing without having to wait for the toilet/shower. On our last night, we cooked a little meal and enjoyed it in the traditional dining rood.
