We were happy to have stayed here during the Spring Festival. Our room was a Japanese style room with tatami flooring. The guest room was decent in size and comfortable. The oriental style dual roller shade in the room was a nice feature. The staff were attentive and friendly. It would be more than perfect if slippers could be provided in the vestibule and toilet area of the room.

The place was very clean and well equipped and Shuji and Sachi did everything to ensure a pleasant stay.

Spacious house with everything you could need close to the old part of town. We walked from the train station and everywhere we went. Enjoyed the photos of local sites and local craft items in the house especially after being out in the town and seeing that they reflect the local area.

Set in Shirakawa in the Gifu region, with Shirakawago nearby, Shiroyamakan features accommodation with access to a hot tub. The 4-star ryokan features river views and is 47 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. We had a wonderful stay at Shiroyamakan. The 4th-5th generation of this family to run the inn are lovely and you can tell that they have a lot of pride and passion for their work and culture. The food was fantastic with mainly homemade and local resources. We especially appreciated the tour by car from the father on the first day to get some pointers for our own exploration. He also helps with taking photos at the observation deck and is all in all a fun and lovely man. Another plus is that in the morning you get a head start to see Shirakawago before most of the tourist busses arrive. Highly recommend staying here on your visit to Shirakawago, it has been our top experience in Japan so far.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. The owner/chef and staffs were all incredibly welcoming. The feeling of total peace and serenity was indescribable. Also, the fact that there was no television in the room, lets you truly enjoy the nature that surrounds you.
