This was a shot in the dark booking since I couldn’t find a place near the beach that was tattoo friendly. We were blown away at the facility, amenities and overall beauty of the location. I booked 3 rooms. Everyone had their own private onsen bath. My husband and I upgraded to the sauna barrel room and we LOVED IT. The guys all did sauna in the morning. They even give you handmade authentic sauna hats. Breakfast was simple but filling. Half of the group did the Japanese style, half did American. My jumbo toast made me feel like I was in a Ghibli movie having breakfast. There is a vending machine in the breakfast area was a variety of snacks and drinks. Our van made it on the roads to the property. So a standard vehicle will have no issue. Beautiful creak flowing in the backyard of every room. Every room has an entrance, toilet & sink room, living room (doubles as bedroom bc you have tatami beds), vanity sink & rack, THEN sliding door to your shower & bath, THEN sliding door to your porch with seating. Our room had the barrel immediately to the left of the porch with ANOTHER outdoor tub. Price was excellent!!

The staff are so kind. I came to Japan to practice speaking the Japanese I’ve learned, so I was constantly looking for conversation opportunities. I found the staff talkative and kind despite my limited Japanese. They taught me some phrases and shared their advice to have fun in Shimoda. This makes it great for solo travelers. Furthermore, the place was very comfortable and clean, and the amenities were enjoyable, especially the bike rental.

The hosts took care of us and met us at the station and also gave us a lift on the way back. They do not speak English but communicate via google translator so this is not an issue. The property looks very unusual, feels like in a fairy tale) there is a private onsen available which we did not use as it was too hot (we were in summer). There is also the possibility to take onsen in the room so we utilised it as a foot onsen which was really appreciated after hikes along the Yogasaki coast. The train station is within 20 mins walk and one can use it to explore the Izu peninsula coast. We had a sea view from our room.
