Plaza de España

At the heart of Badajoz Old Town, this striking square is a much-loved local meeting point. Plaza de España is dominated by the 13th-century San Juan Cathedral and the colourful neoclassical façade of the Municipal Palace. Shaded pavement cafés and stone benches are scattered around the square – perfect for a spot of people-watching.

A truly magnificent place... did not want to leave each time I went there and believe me... I made a lot of visits there during my one trip. It was amazing in the morning, amazing during the day and even more amazing at sunset and during the evening. Millions of angles to take photos and every corner is perfect just to sit down and soak up the unique atmosphere. Definitely a MUST!

The benches designed for different areas of Spain are well worth examining, and look at the books that have been left in the little ceramic "towers" next to each bench. This is worth visiting when the sun starts to go down so that you have soft lighting to best appreciate all the design features of the space.

Built for an international exposition the grand edifice houses government offices. It is huge, and incredibly decorated and very busy with tourist busloads from late morning. It is free to enter so go early for the best experience. The nearby Maria Luisa Park is worth a visit.

Absolutely beautiful and not to be missed (even after introducing entry fees). Allow plenty time to see fabulus art of tiled representations of Spanish provinces. Often live flamenco performances (free to watch). Very romantic with its bridges and fountain. Easy and relaxing short rides on pedal boats along the canal (small fees apply). Green park just outside with abundance of birds.

    Gorgeous.

Gorgeous. Definitely visit in morning or evening if you can, as it is ungodly hot in the middle of the day. Amazing architecture, and cool history. I would recommend booking a walking tour of Seville to learn more if it is a first visit.
