The staff had the right balance of providing supreme service, where nothing was too much trouble and were mostly preemptive, while still being personable and warm. You can find lovely hotel rooms anywhere, but finding the right staff is obviously the Savoy’s forte.

British Museum

As Great Britain’s Empire expanded, so did its cache of material treasures – many of which are on display in this world-class museum. Among its eight million exhibits, you'll find the stunning Elgin Marbles from Greece, the Benin Bronzes and the legendary Rosetta Stone. The Reading Room stands at its heart and is spectacular in size and scope.

This is a fabulous museum, and takes more than a day to see.

This is a fabulous museum, and takes more than a day to see. We paid for an early tour, which was nice, but perhaps unnecessary. It was a fairly crowded Saturday in September, but it's so big viewers are able to spread out. Not sure what it would be like in the summer. I would love to go back and allow for 3 shorter days. We were exhausted after 8 hour.

Get a guided tour.

Get a guided tour. I normally like to explore places under my own steam. However I have missed so much in this incredible museum before my American Cousin persuaded me to join her on a tour! Also sometimes retired professors do free mini tours of their chosen subject. I enjoyed a fascinating tour of the Elgin/Parthanon marbles

Do not go to this museum thinking you will see everything. Even with close to four hours, we barely scratched the surface--but what you do see is incredible and that means there's always more for a future visit!

We were overwhelmed by the number of noisy visitors first thing in the morning. It was not a warm day but it was very stuffy and there was no air flow through a lot of the galleries. The information tags on some of the exhibits were poorly placed and very difficult to read unless you were right up close.

Pre-book a ticket or go on a late opening evening ( The queues can be very long). The Egyptian /Assyrian statues and monuments are spectacular ,asare the controversial Elgin marbles. For intrinsic British exhibits, Roman Britain is fascinating. The reading room is hosting an exhibition at the moment. A very interesting space set in The Great Court. Top tip _ don't try to see everything in one visit. Plan and Prioritize!! Top Tip:

The management provided me with an extra comforter against the chilly Christmas weather. The shower was super hot, the bed was comfy and the breakfast was ample and varied. Outstanding location near tube and bus lines. Located walking distance from British Museum.

The location is excellent -- five minutes from the tube and a grocery store, and a dozen good restaurants within a short walk. Also, five minutes to the British Museum. I liked having a full kitchen available although I just made light snacks.

Very comfortable stay with all the necessary amenities in the room (iron, hair drier, kettle). It's and old building so the room wasn't very spacious but everything was very organized. Comfortable bed, working AC and also a heater. Breakfast was adequate with full English and cold options and service was efficient. Very convenient location for British museum, theaters, shopping streets. Was worried about noise from the street or adjacent rooms but I slept perfectly.
