It's called "Palace" and it's indeed a palace! It's located in the medieval palace right in the heart of Venice, 3 minutes walk from Saint Mark square. A lot of shops, cafés and restaurants are nearby, Our room was quite large (especially comparing to other hotels), it was clean and cozy. We travelled in December, but it was very warm inside. There's a great sun terrace on the roof! In our room we had a minibar with a nice choice of drinks and snacks inside, but there's also a bar open till the midnight where you can get drinks, coffee or deserts or even some meal. But the icing on the cake was breakfast. I haven't seen such a rich choice of breakfast options for quite a long time: warm meal, cereals, juice, toasts, deserts, etc., etc. And the breakfast is served in an astonishing medieval hall; when we stayed there, it was even more beautiful because of Christmas decorations.

Doge's Palace

You can’t take your camera inside the Doge’s Palace, but its exterior is picture perfect. This grand Renaissance building can be snapped from San Marco square, or from across the lagoon, where its southern façade seems to rise out of the water. The famous Bridge of Sighs connects the palace with the neighbouring prison – an iconic sight that’s best photographed from the water.

we did the audioguide.

we did the audioguide. It used up all the power on my phone and the directions in the palace were poor. I'm sure if we had a person to guide us we would have enjoyed it more, but due to time restrictions we could not book a guided tour.

Beautiful and a must for your trip!

Beautiful and a must for your trip! TIP: Book in advance so you can ensure you get to do the type of tour you want to do. There is an option to do the "Secret Itineraries Tour" which gives you access to way more in the palace. We would have chosen it had we known that you had to book in advance for it. Either way, booking in advance on their website saves a lot of time vs standing outside in line to get in, especially because there are tour groups and a separate (wayy shorter) line for those who buy online before they come.

Interesting tours can be booked there, which allow to see places not available to general public: Secret Itineraries Tour and Hidden Doge’s Treasure Tour (the latter form 7 April 2023), which include entrance to the Palace. You can enter BEFORE your booked time, visit the Palace and then wait for the tour or visit it afterwards. It is lavishly decorated. A true gem.

There are countless, mind bogglingly exquisite examples of Renaissance art, architecture and sculpture. Scuola Grande di S. Rocco holds boasts exquisite wood carvings & paintings, the Palazzo Ducale almost too much to take in. Tintoretto & Titian is everywhere. The Frari offers amazing examples. Too much that is beautiful than can be described in a paragraph.

Just step off the main touristic route, and you will be able to enjoy old Venice streets without crowds. If queues to the Palazzo Ducale or San Marco Cathedral look too scary to you, visit the Correr museum at San Marco square, just next door to the Palazzo, to learn more about the history and social life of the Venitian republic in a more quiet atmosphere.
