Istanbul is a city to fall in love with and MEG hotel is a home away from home! All sightseeing attractions are walkable, it's 2 mints to tram/train and 5 minus to the water. Can't ask for a better location. Room is very clean and water pressure is good. My room has sea view which is very relaxing. I also appreciate the 24/7 tea coffee (4 kinds of coffee!) served in the lobby. Breakfast is simple and delicious. Above all, the service - David, Barack and other staff makes me feel warm and welcome. They genuinely care about the guests and it shows. everytime I come back I feel like coming home. I would highly recommend to anyone that travels to Istanbul!

The hotel was just fabulous, exceeded all reasonable expectations! Perfect location, an easy walk to all major historic attractions and the Grand Bazaar, subway and other transport, restaurants and shops. Also close to the Galata area and to the water buses to the Asian site of the city. The hotel is new, spotlessly clean and comfortable, with exceptional staff always ready to help and even bring drinks to the terrace on the top of the hotel to enjoy the great view. Welcome drinks and snacks. Special thanks to Utkan for the many valuable tips and the upgrade to a room with a stunning view of the Bosphorus. Greatly recommended and amazing value for money. THANK YOU!!!

Topkapi Palace

The home of Ottoman sultans for hundreds of years, Topkapi Palace is part of Istanbul’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dating back to 1459, this sprawling royal residence once covered a huge stretch of the shore – and even had its own hospital, mint and mosques within the walls. Now a museum, it displays some of the most important artefacts of the Muslim world.

Ensure that you schedule enough time to visit. The recommended time is not enough to spend time with everything. Ensure that you include Harem as part of your tour. An absolute must see to appreciate the rest of the tour

i know the country is struggling and that they also have to do what they can to reduce the hordes tramping through Topkapi, but you have to be on the level of the British Museum or the Louvre with a once-in-a-lifetime traveling exhibit to justify these kinds of prices. I'm very interested in Turkish history as well as an archaeology buff and it didn't merit the investment. i think they should cut the price in half, offer a steep discount for seniors, and cut off ticket sales at a certain volume each hour. 1,700 lira per person, payable in cash or card (debit/credit) in TL, Euros, or USD. The free audio guide requires you leave your passport as deposit (not $), so be sure to bring yours. There is only one place inside that require women to wear a shawl and they have freebies you can use at the entrance to those rooms. The harem is included in this price, NO need to pay an extra 600 TL. Budget at least a good couple hours just to tour the place.

Too expensive ticket, but if you enter, do eat before entering and grab with yourself a bigger bottled water. There is no place to get a water inside, one spot sells drinks at multiple times the normal price. The trip may last around 3 hours so eat well beforehand. Really recommend going early, as later in the day and after 2 + hours after opening, it gets too crowdy.

1500 Liras per person in June 2024. We had to pay this price for kids aged 7, 9 and 11 as well. You only get discount if you show passports. Overpriced and too many people. Museum is worth visting but not at that price.

This hotel is very well located and within easy walking distance of the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, The Grand Bazzar and the harbour. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It is an older hotel that has been restored some years ago, the rooms are not big but adequate and the beds are very comfortable. Breakfast was included in our rate and it is in a really lovely courtyard with a glass roof, the food offering is very nice and they make great omelets to order. The WiFi worked well.

What guests said about Topkapi Palace:

Walk everywhere possible.

Walk everywhere possible. Visit Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica cisterns and Topkapi Palace but go as early as possible as they get very crowded. For a trip on the Bosporus get the public ferry from under the Galata bridge to the last stop and go up to the castle and then get last ferry back to Istanbul. The first ferry is at 10.35 and the ferry back is at 3ish. It is very reasonable but there is no commentary but we thought it was excellent but be early to get a good view and position on top deck. We found the best restaurant to be Amedros. We went two times and the food is excellent and good value and the staff friendly attentive.
