Ideal for nature-lovers looking for a self-sufficient getaway, lodges are fully furnished and self-catered. Usually made of wood and surrounded by forests or mountains, lodges can be part of a group or a single unit. More remote than holiday homes, lodges are popular for safari trips.

Nice lodge, with only 10 people staying at maximum which means it’s pretty quiet. Good kitchen facilities. Free pool tables/ games etc.
we were allowed to stay for longer after check out then the owner arranged us a lift to our bus which was really nice of her and saved us a lot of trouble.

We loved the location, set amongst nikau forest. Unfortunately we couldn't take full advantage of the setting because of wet weather. We stayed in Te Nikau Lodge which was attractive and comfortable, catering for six people in three upstairs bedrooms. The large downstairs communal area comfortably housed kitchen, dining, lounge and bathroom. Basic equipment was provided in the kitchen.

Really interesting setup - huge property with multiple lodgings. The shared facilities were super roomy (massive kitchen) - and shared with some lovely people who didn't mind too much having a little one running around. Chris was super helpful with cot and generally with booking etc.

Wonderful location in Punakaiki. About a 10 minute walk to the beach and 30min walk to the Pancake Rocks. We stayed in the lodge portion which is similar to backpacker style with shared facilities. Beds were comfortable and everything was clean. Good place to base yourself either before or after the Paparoa track.

Lovely secluded setting. Easy access to the beach to watch sunset.
Rata lodge was beautifully laid out over three levels with dorm (no bunks) in the attic. Great, relaxing vibes.
Comfortable bed. Personal light and charging point. Towel provided.
