Arima Onsen, Kobe
Founded in the 12th century and beloved by Junichiro Tanizaki and other Japanese novelists, Tosen Goshobo is the oldest of the hot-spring inns at Arima. Standing beside the Taki River, it features outdoor hot-spring baths and traditional in-room meals and is a 5-minute walk from Arima Onsen Train Station. The Japanese rooms have traditional futon bedding and a minibar. So clean and such a modern yet cultural experience of the oldest onsen in town. Onsen and showers were clean. Rooms were spacious for the “tenraku” room and onsen was so close to the middle of all the shops.

A true 5 star hotel like they used to be with incredible customer service and facilities. Great swimming pool, restaurants and food. Shuttle bus service to and from the main local train station was very convenient and for free before check in and after check out. I would definitely go back next time I visit Kobe.
A beautiful hotel, very classy with amazing staff. Location is ideal and the views are stunning !
It is a traditional onsen so don't expect luxury. Do book a room with a private outdoor bath overlooking the bamboo garden or book a private onsen when you check-in. This is the only way to properly enjoy the property.
Classy. Great view. Very relaxed atmosphere. Helpful staff.
lovely view, spa, and their garden. superb cleanliness throughout.
We booked the suite and I'm telling you it really was worth the money! :) We visited a more modest onsen earlier and this was like a luxury version of it. We were truly relaxed after our stay. I've never seen a hotel room so beautiful and never had a dinner like that before! Breakfast was luxurious too, japanese style. We reserved a private onsen on check-in and it was so lovely also.
It’s understated but in a nice way. Staff are very helpful and welcoming. The private Onsen is so relaxing. It’s a luxury to have it all to yourself. We booked a Kaiseki dinner and it was amazing! A big thank you to the Executive chef Yoshihiro Ogasawara!
The breakfasts and dinners were outstanding - exceeded my expectations at the Ryokan. The four public baths can be used privately on a first come, first served basis and it felt like a luxury to share a large hot spring bath with my partner. The staff, with little english, communicated with us as best they could given we had next to no Japanese. My partner had help with the fitting of het Yukata and the last doing this spent a significant amount of time making sure it was just right.
felt like a 5 star experience without the 5 star price tag exceptional service from the bellman, reception and the bar staff
