I spend 5 super relaxing days in Susami to flee the busy cites of Japan. The Town packs everything you need to calm down and enjoy a peaceful time in Nature. There is a coffee, multiple restaurants, an izakaya and a supermarket within max. 15min walking distance. The Ocean is right across the street in 1min. walking distance and Susami is surrounded by beautiful hiking / pilgrimage trails, waterfalls and other small coastal towns that offer a variety of unique sightseeing spots or activites (you can find all information in the local tourism centre). Although the hostel is located near the street you dont get bothered by the car noises (there are hardly any cars passing by after 6pm). I came during november where there were only 2 other travelers besides me. While the other travelers passed by on a pilgrimage i stayed in susami and had a great time with sosuke, the super friendly and helpful hostel host, who sometimes invited his friends over and let me participate in their talks around the campfire or other local activities. Anakashico hostel and the entire South of Wakayama area is a place where i definately want to return to and continue to explore more of japans beautiful nature and slow and peaceful country side.

We knew Esumi is not the touristic town, but we wanted to have this holidays from the Japan holidays and Esumi is perfect for it. We went to the beach, to the Nachi waterfalls, all by train and no problem. JR Pass allows to travel all around. And the best, beside the bath in the stay, is the view to the sea! Perfect. And there is a big room to eat your breakfast or lunch from the nearby Lawson station.

The property is spacious. We travelled with 3 adults and 3 children. We have a lot of space to relax. When we were there, there was a big earthquake in Niigata. Although the property was not within the warning zone, we checked the closest tsunamis shelter. It is just at the back of the property and it takes a 7 yro boy 48 secs to run to the shelter. There is a large supermarket for local people. We bought high-quality sashimi, A5 wagu beef and alcohol for dinner. There is an ocean-facing public Onsen in 2mins drive! It only costs you a few hundred yen for an adult and half price for a child. Don’t forget to grab the towels from the property when you go.

The host is very nice and helpful. The unit is clean and tidy. Complete facilities for travellers. Beds are comfortable and the environment is very quiet. For this cost, I am very satisfied. I will definitely book it again if I come to this place in future.
