A gem of a place very close to Batticaloa. We spent a few nights there. It was very nice. The staff there are also very nice. The plastic on the beach there really bothered us. We are just mentioning it here. It is not their fault. The municipal council there should take responsibility for this.

The rooms are clean and spacious and the 3 bungalows are in a small side street with a nice garden, so it's calm and green around. When the neighbour climbed his palm trees to collect coconuts, we also received fresh coconuts for free. The breakfast was rich and they also offered good dinner (a whole fish, prawns or crab). We took the fish for 13 EUR.

Our room was comfortable, bed was comfortable too, bathroom was big and clean(everything was perfectly clean). Very good air condition in the room. And good sound isolation. We sleept very well here. We ordered dinner and breakfast here - all was tasty.

Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa - Thema Collection is about 225 km from Sigiriya Town. Free parking is available. The hotel welcomes all new guests with flower necklaces and cool fruit drinks. The breakfast buffet options are numerous. We ordered a la carte lunch & dinner, and the food was always exceptional. (Note, the first night we wanted something that they didn’t have but they ordered it for the second night.) The room was ok, but all rooms come with a comfortable balcony to make up for what the room lacks. Also, the bathroom is about the same size as the room. The beach and the ocean are by far the main reason to come here. The warm ocean water is unparalleled and the hotel staff do a wonderful job keeping their section of the beach clean. The pool area is also nice, but we came for the beach and spent most of our time there. The kid space is lacking, but that’s ok as long as you aren’t there when it rains. Lastly, all the staff we encountered were professional. They helped arrange our departure taxi which actually was rather reasonably priced; meaning same price everyone seems to charge tourists 200 rupees per kilometer (rather than what locals pay which is like 120-150). Overall, I highly recommend staying here.

Kumu looked after us perfectly. We had the best breakfast in Sri Lanka with loads of fruit and she prepared a superb rice and curry for dinner. Holiday Beach Guesthouse is 5 minutes walking from the beach, which is great and where there are only few people. The property is tidy and the garden peaceful. Our villa was well maintained and comfortable. We hope to come back!
