We did not use public transportation in Kyoto. Walking to the city center takes 15min from the hotel. Hotel itself is great! It offers big, clean and comfortable rooms and it also has a very pleasant lobby with bakery, so you can buy fresh bread, pastry etc. every morning. The restaurant serves great breakfasts in the morning and local IPA in the evening :-)
