The location is very peaceful, the Japanese style room was very prettily decorated and spacious, and the Miyako and her husband were fabulous hosts. They were so friendly and helpful, and made us feel very well cared for. Miyako prepared delicious and generous meals for us that were absolutely beautiful. She was also a huge help with arranging luggage transfer for us as we began our planned hike along the Michinoku trail. And she and her husband offered to drive us to and from Hachinohe station at a very reasonable rate, which is a big help and big time saver because Hachinohe is very spread out.

Situated within 2.2 km of Morioka Station and 100 metres of House of Morioka Town, Tototo Morioka features rooms with air conditioning and a shared bathroom in Morioka. Free WiFi is available throughout the property and private parking is available on site. The accommodation provides a shared kitchen and luggage storage space for guests. Morioka is a nice, quiet city and Tototo is in a lovely peaceful neighborhood. Dela-san, the owner is very friendly and helpful with information about the area. The Sunday dinner and Monday morning walk were both among some of my favorite highlights of my trip to Japan so far.

The accommodation offers a shared kitchen and luggage storage space for guests. The host was super friendly! It had a homely feel and I felt very comfortable here. We also had a BBQ together on the front deck!

Situated in Kuroishi in the Aomori region, Tabinoyado Saikawa features accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to spa facilities. This 3-star ryokan offers a housekeeping service and private check-in and check-out. Tsuta Hot Spring is 36 km away and Hirosaki Castle is 22 km from the ryokan. This is a traditional Japanese ryokan with public baths (gender separated). Dinner and breakfast are amazing and plentiful, with locally sourced organic produce (even coffee!). Our room (Japanese room with private toilet) was to the left of the entrance. It was very spacious. The heater worked very well as autumn night was a bit damp and cold. The beds are futons on wood bed frames on tatami, and they are super comfortable. As I have a whole-leg tattoo which is usually not permitted in the public baths, I notified Ranko in advance, and she reserved the private bath for us. The private bath was a very beautiful blue ceramic bath filled with warm (I don’t think it’s very hot) healing hot spring water from the area. Ranko’s warm personality really made the stay memorable. Be sure to ask her for recommendations of the areas. She is a well of knowledge of the area!

Minpaku Suzuki is set in Hiraizumi, less than 1 km from Motsuji Temple, 2.5 km from Chuson-ji Temple, and 5.5 km from Takkoku Seikou-ji Temple. Very comfortable, great location (short walk from Hiraizumi Station, short walk to Motsu-ji Temple, onsen), hosts were very welcoming, breakfast was delicious,

Situated 14 km from Motsuji Temple, Matakitai offers 1-star accommodation in Ichinoseki and has a garden. This guest house features free private parking, a shared kitchen and free WiFi. The accommodation provides bicycle parking and a shared lounge for guests. Very friendly host, we had a late check-in and he was ready for us to arrive. The room was nice, the common area had availability of tea and coffee and lots of stuff for reading.

Offering a garden and inner courtyard view, Guest House Chara is located in Hirosaki, 34 km from Sannai-Maruyama site and 3.5 km from Hirosaki Castle. This guest house provides free private parking, free shuttle service and free WiFi. Staff on-site can arrange a shuttle service. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming - there was also a breakfast included (which I didn't remember getting). The house was full of history and souvenirs which I'm sure the hosts are more than happy to talk to you about. There is also "sake nights" where the hosts offered us a chance to try different sakes. There is only one shower in the facility, so there is a booking system to reserve your shower slot.

Featuring an open-air bath, Kameya Hotel is located in the Yunohama Onsen district of Tsuruoka, only 3.5 km from Kamo Aquarium. This ryokan provides free private parking and a 24-hour front desk. Guests can use the hot spring bath and the public bath, or enjoy sea views. Amazing history and gardens. Rooms were enormous, with open views of the beach and with a cedar bathtub fed by hot springs in the room.

Set in Ishinomaki, within 37 km of Shiogama Shrine and 49 km of Sendai City Community Support Center, Tama Hotel offers accommodation with a restaurant and as well as free private parking for guests who drive. Featuring free bikes, the 2-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a private bathroom. The hotel has family rooms. The property is lovely and the owner/host extremely friendly and helpful, a man happy with his life. He provided free transport to and from the ferry to cat island, and back to the train station. He has many cats that guests are welcome to interact with. Highly recommend this hotel. We were sad to leave this one. Very good value for money.
