Made to feel welcome from the start. I stayed for 2 nights as I wanted to ride over the Grossglockner pass without luggage on my motorcycle. It's a little expensive but worth every penny. I'm guessing it was the owners who i dealt with both were friendly and professional . As were the other staff. The room with a balcony was huge plenty of room and great views. Can't say enough how much I enjoyed it. Definitely recommend.. 5 stars from me..

Great hotel: true 4 stars for very reasonable price; great tasty breakfast made from meat/diary products from the hotel owners’ own farm; very decent SPA zone included (although it closes at ~7:30 pm, ideally I’d run it till 9 pm) which was great to use after coming back from skiing; very warm in the room; lots of free parking spaces; lovely animals in and near the hotel (a cute cat, cows, ponies, etc.); nice and friendly staff

Matrei is narrow and there are many cars and no pedestrians walkways. Be prepared that the restaurants are expensive, an inflation of at least 100% over the last five years. Avoid bank holidays for your stay and make sure that you can buy a Leberkäs-Semmel in a Supermarket when necessary.

This hotel is just a diamond in one single word.

This hotel is just a diamond in one single word. There are too many topics to mention why I came to this conclusion. When you love the mountains and you would like to have an amazing stay, you have to book this hotel. Each facet of your list will be checked and at the end you are surprised of the total cost. This is really more than acceptable for all what this hotel offers you. You will return with a smile on your face and looking forward when you plan a next stay.

This location is a haven for skiing, hiking, photography, nature walks, and other activities that offer a refreshing escape from urban routines. The apartments are nice and well-equipped, ensuring your leisure time is both comfortable and convenient, especially with the lifts just 200-300 meters away. Several nearby restaurants serve delicious food and drinks, adding to the overall experience. While most visitors to the mountains are from Germany and Austria, you'll also encounter many friendly people from various EU regions, making it a delightful and sociable environment.

Matrei and the surrounding countryside mirror the pictures...

Matrei and the surrounding countryside mirror the pictures that are seen of Austria: it is beautiful. The town has two grocery stores and a very helpful tourist information center. It also has an interesting museum and a reasonable choice of restaurants.. We ate our evening meal in the hotel across the street ( where the breakfast included is eaten) and the food was good. Easy access from the main highway.

We were on a driving holiday visiting the high alpine passes. The Grossglockner road tool booth is five minutes away and opens at 5:30am; we left the hotel at 5:25am and were there as it opened. The hotel was welcoming, clean and as advertised. We ate at the hotel, having been up to the Edelweißspitze (the toll is reduced after 6pm, so we arrived and went up before dinner). Some rooms overlook the main road, so you might want to request a room on the other side of the hotel if the noise of the occasional vehicle bothers you.
