Gmunden is in a beautiful setting on the lake and surrounded by mountains. There are beautiful, old buildings and some interesting independent shops. We enjoyed the Christmas Market which, although small, was full of artisanal products. The weather was mainly foggy and damp, although we had a little snow on Christmas Eve, so we didn't do all the things we had planned, such as a cable car ride up to Gruenberg, but we enjoyed visiting Stoegmullers, a large fashion department store and La Sonett patisserie and bakery, which has the most sumptuous cakes. (They also have apartments in a very convenient location). The Schlossort, the castle on the lake is worth a visit - and a few photographs - and has a large car park, which is a bit of a walk from the castle but the route is flat. We only ate out once, because the cooking facilities and equipment at the apartment were so good, which was at a Greek restaurant called Meteora, at the end of the street where the apartment was located. The food was hearty and extremely tasty and the staff very friendly and obliging. We would certainly go back there. Getting around Gmunden is easy, due to the frequent buses and their tram line, which runs from the Bahnhof to the Rathausplatz. If you want to use your car, there is a convenient underground parking garage near the lake and good on street parking, although you will need to download a parking app. Gmunden has something for everyone, great sporting activities, fitness centres etc, as well as good restaurants and bars and excellent shopping opportunities. We plan to return later in the year.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent! The room was super clean, the bed was comfortable. and the bathroom was great- excellent shower pressure! We had access to an elevator which helped with the bags and we had a fantastic view of the area on the top floor along with a balcony. I had a minor issue with the reservation on booking.com and the manager/ owner was very accommodating and helped me resolve it. I would highly recommend this property. My only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.

Small town, in which people great each others warmly. Close to Feuerkogel - nice ski area and to larger cities - Bad Ischl and Gmunden, for either relaxion visits or shopping. A warm feeling of visiting your grandparents.

In November you do not have much to do there. We found only on restaurant and one café house open, nothing else. I did not get why any (zero!) souvenir shop is not existing there - I am sure tourists would appreciate to buy some small souvenirs and support the local business by doing this.

A quiet residential village on the more mountainous southern end of the Traunsee, picturesquely embedded in its dramatic surroundings. Wooden boat houses fringe the water's edge like an ancient lake village, and there is a small campsite, bathing beach and beach cafe. Rindbach invites an evening stroll, with enough quaint and traditional cottages and villas along some of its small streets to transport you to another time. For practical facilities (shops, tourist information, train station), the small town of Ebensee is less than a mile away, and for summer walking and as a base to discover the area, I reckon it's probably a more relaxed option than the more famous nearby tourist spots like Bad Ischl or Wolfgangsee. Don't miss a trip to the nearby Langbaht lakes for a swim!

Such a wonderful place. Beautiful buildings and great cafes and restaurants. The Traunsee tram makes public transportation easy. The only downside is the short term parking, so got to look for pricey underground parking or free parking lots which are far away.

Altmünster is nice village next to lake Traunsee with all its beauty that an Alpine settlement can have. Narrow streets, charming country houses with marvelous gardens, no crowd and fresh air. You can take a (steep) ride on to Gmundnerberg (the mountain backing the village) on foot, by bike or by car. Gmunden the neighboring city is a the treasure of the area, good cafes, breweries, restaurants and lakeside promenade with fountain, from where you can get to Grunberg hill with a cable car (lift) to the top and take some refreshing walks from 30min to 3 hrs. We really enjoyed being there and look forward to revisiting it soon.

lovely location, great in the summer and if you are there for the dark sky park (for those night photographers, or just astronomy lovers) its perfect. Go on a new moon though as that is when the sky is at its best.

Very lovely small little town at the lake, it has plenty restaurants with amazing views of the lake and mountains. Suitable for family with small kids like us as it also has plenty playgrounds and lots of outdoor activities such as swimming.

I love the little town. Lovely square. Nice walk around the like. If you love hiking the place to visit. So much to do. Easy access. People were very nice and helpful. I didn't have a great weather but as they say it's not bad weather but wrong clothes 😆.
