we didn't stay long enough to get a real feel for the place.
we didn't stay long enough to get a real feel for the place. the ocean side and road trip around the Cabot Trail were the best, stopping at the different parkways on the trip. our hosts were great and informative about the whole experience. The roads are great to travel on. The people are friendly and helpful everywhere we went. The roadside stops were very scenic just as we were told they would be. definitely going back again someday!Guest review bymelodyCanada - 8.0

When I left (For the second year running) there are no facilities to obtain refreshments if you have a long wait. (I arrived because of check out time 11:30 and the flight did not leave until 16:45) That is a long wait without the ablitly to have some refreshments.Guest review byAnthonyUnited Kingdom - 8.0
We LOVED our accommodations, the quiet and the beach!
We LOVED our accommodations, the quiet and the beach! Most restaurant food was very good. Loved whale watching and the gondola. Would have like a continental breakfast as there were no restaurants within walking distance. Also, restaurants close too early and many ran out of food so decided to close! 150 people at the pizza place (because no place else was open with availability) on a Sunday wasn’t fun.Guest review byMaryCanada - 6.0
We ate dinner at Le Gabriel Restaurant.
We ate dinner at Le Gabriel Restaurant. There was entertainment Sunday evening at the restaurant. A woman played the fiddle and a man accompanied her on a keyboard. They were excellent. Seafood prices are very high. The place was very busy and the food was good. Getting around Cheticamp is easy. We enjoyed driving along the entire Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island. The Cape Breton Highlands Provincial Park was closed because of high fire danger.Guest review bylewis - 8.0
Lovely place. Scenery great.
Lovely place. Scenery great. Food at Main Street Restaurant was very good, deserts were extremely good but expensive. Cape Smokey Gondola was very interesting with great view from the top. The Gondola was a little expensive for someone who only went up and down after seeing the view. There were some trails but didn't seem to be well marked.Guest review byreginaldCanada - 10.0

Although located just off the Cabot Trail, one does not have to drive far to reach the trail at Margaree Forks. That is just what we did having spent several days exploring the landscape which is so good it is best not to rush it. Port Hood has accommodations, 2 restaurants that we visited (the Clove Hitch and the Admiral) and both restaurants were recommended to us by friends we have who live elsewhere on Cape Breton. We also spent two nights at Ingonish Beach which is on the trail itself but Port Hood was certainly not disappointing even though it is not on the trail.Guest review byGARYUnited Kingdom - 6.0

A bit pricey for what you get but options in the area for what we needed were limited. Restaurant onsite with good menu and great service was very convenient for us, especially after some long days travelling and hiking. Loved parking right at our door as it allowed for easy unloading and loading. Our room was towards the back away from the main road which was quieter than other places we stayed. Disappointed that I didn’t check the details of the listing before I booked to see if it had a microwave and fridge, which it did not. TV was miniature but we didn’t use anyway. Internet was spotty when both of us were trying to use it. Shower was wonky and whole room could have been upgraded with a few things while still keeping the charm. bed was not to my liking —- a bit hard—-ended up not sleeping much. All in all it was ok for one night and the restaurant was a huge bonus but I would see if there are other options next time.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

We did the tour first which was a perfect way to start our day. Learning about the history of the Fort and what many of the buildings were all about was incredibly helpful in understanding what we were seeing. Not everything was open because it was low season so we will definitely visit again, next time in peak season!Guest review byRoberta - 6.0
Good spot for sunsets. Very small town off the Cabot Trail.
Good spot for sunsets. Very small town off the Cabot Trail. Therefore very few restaurants. They also close early in the shoulder season so good to keep in mind. The main restaurant was Belles and it had a good selection on the menu. The lobster roll was okay and the seafood chowder good.Guest review byDavidUnited States - 8.0
This was our second trip to North Sydney.
This was our second trip to North Sydney. This trip we used as bookends to our ferry trip to and from Newfoundland. This is a quiet little town, surrounded by incredible beauty. The Black Spoon is a must if you enjoy good food. Friendly people and lots to do. NS would be a good home base for exploring the area.Guest review bydavcmoUnited States
