NorwayBeautiful boutique hotel close to everything Las Terrenas can offer. We loved the construction, decor, pool and garden and the staff was very nice and helpful. A quiet and peaceful oasis only a few hundred meters from Playa Punta Popy and lots of restaurants.

It is a perfect location for people who try to find an alternative to all-inclusive hotels. The Playa La Playita, 10 minute-walk from the hotel, is among the most beautiful beaches on the island. The hotel is also 7-10 minute-walk to the town Las Galeras, where one can find good restaurants and feel the vibrance of local life at night. I particularly enjoyed the free Yoga classes facing the ocean in the morning. Angelina, the Yoga teacher, is super amiable and helped us tremendously during our stay to communicate with the personnel (we don't speak Spanish). Overall, this has been a very pleasant stay. I highly recommend the hotel.

CanadaBreakfast was one of the best I’ve been served with an extremely generous time span of 7:30-11:30 so we didn’t need to worry about missing it if you wanted to sleep in.
The apartment was huge and had everything you need with an amazing pool area literally steps from your room and the beach a few steps further.
We were worried to hear loud music from cars and scooters on the balcony and in the living room but the bedrooms were so soundproof we had amazing sleeps.
The staff is the best. They can arrange pickup and tours and whatever you need. They even text me that a massage day was available and could be in the private gazebo by the pool or your room if you preferred. What a treat!
I don’t understand any of the negative reviews because this place was beyond our expectations.

KenyaI was disappointed by the location of the hotel as everything around it is currently under construction. It’s a bit far out from the beach by foot but probably fine by quad-bike. I only realised the checkin hours after booking otherwise I would have booked a different location as it’s quite a short window for international travellers (1-3pm). Anyway, confirmed ETA one hour prior to arrival as my E-SIM was not working as planned, arrived to find the place locked up and after a 15 min wait went to find another hotel as I had already been travelling by road for 10 hours. Long story short, got charged for the night and but wound up staying elsewhere. Perhaps the facilities are as serene as the pictures but did not meet expectations.

Oh my favourite place of all DR. What a gem. I didn’t expect too much reading the reviews but oh! It was just great.
First of all, the location. I have never been to a hotel that has such a 250degree views of the sea. That was the number one. The place is so well designed you feel like you are almost on your own and they were sold out! So many areas to chill, on so many levels. Wherever I looked it was just beutiful. Even a space behind the building. Even the parking lot looked like a garden! Just amazing.
The staff is also amazing and will be happy to help. My mum didn’t like her toom so they changed it at no extra charge(we were glad to pay but didn’t have to).
The lunch was excellent a la carte. Dinner was meh.
Breakfast ok. I loved the locations of the restaurants.
The rooms were a bit old school in design(not my favourite style) but of all the hotels we went to it was by far the best kept rooms. You know that feeling when everything just works and everything is there when you need it. Like working a/c, and quiet, a lovely coffee maker, a good magnyfying mirror in the bathroom, a lovely ice box… etc etc.
The bartenders know their cocktails too and the bar is so well priced.

We had come here after a few days in Las Galeras, where the nature is a bit wilder, and loved it. This is a wonderfully located hotel with direct beach access and sun beds. The sea is calm around the hotel; if you want waves, walk to the right towards the middle of playa bonita. Some people surf there. You can also walk towards playa coson, to the left of the hotel. I enjoyed the quiet and calm atmosphere and the fact that no music was played on the beach. Playa Bonita is beautiful and there are 4-5 places where you can eat. The hotel has its own restaurant too. If you’d like to go to Las Terrenas, you can go by taxi or hop on the motorcycle with a local person. However, we stayed for a week and only went to the town once for some supplies. The restaurants by the beach are lovely.
Our room was nicely decorated and bright; also very quiet. Staff were very pleasant. We went in early June and the hotel was almost empty - we had the beach to ourselves.

Very attentive staff. Receptionist answered all my questions and was very helpful and also the guys at the bar were very nice and fast with the delivery of the food which also was a big portion for a good price. The Villa was spacious and every room had air conditioner. I aleays use the BBQ here and the guts at the bar help you start the fire and provide charcoal! This has been my second stay at chalet tropical and all i can say is this is the best place to enjoy as a couple or with your family. Will surely be back again!

The staff were pleasant and friendly. Hugo went the extra mile in trying to resolve situations, but in things out of his personal reach or responsibility he was hampered by not being able to help out at times (like with the air conditioner—see below). We all loved the beach and delightfully big pool and spent many happy hours there. Minerva was a stellar cook for the family and powerful at cleaning laundry on two occasions in record time! Wow!

The apartaments are lovely. We stayed at a 2-bedroom and it was HUGE. Very big balcony and spacious living/dining areas. It has everything you need and the lovely beach is a stone’s throw away. The staff offer an inmaculate service and were very flexible with our requests. From there we drove short distances to Playa Bonita and Playa Ballenas which are both lovely. It was a surprisingly nice complex and well maintained.

Johanna is the most accommodating, helpful, nice, respectful owner. She will help you to get everything you need. Johanna, her beautiful daughter Victoria and her staff provide a wonderful daily breakfast. They keep the grounds, the pool and the rooms clean We very much enjoyed our stay. You are one block from the maim street with lots of restaurants and bars and mini marts. The beach is one block down too.

Las Terrenas is a lovely northern town on the Samana peninsula.
If you want a chilled out vibe, full of locals and nice easy access to different beaches then this is your place.
I went as a solo female traveller and found it very good, generally safe, did not feel threatened which is important when you're alone.
Plenty of places to eat, but I would do your research first. The food was good, but often the service at restaurants was not so good. Cheap prices.
Margarita Bar - inexpensive, amazing quesadillas
Gelateria Italiana Artesanal - cute ice cream parlour
El Loro - great beach snacks
Ristorante Pizzeria Nonna Teresa - a fab family run italian with fresh pasta
El Lugar - full options and good tapas style food
Boulangerie Francaise - a cute bakery
Empanadas y Más - didn't try, but known to have the best empanadas
Pizza Coco - go-to amazing cheap delicious pizza
Super Mercado Lindo - closest large supermarket if you want options
20-30 min walk or you can get a taxi/bike.
Easiest ways to get around if you don't want to rent a drive is the men that drive the scooters, they all wear yellow high vis jackets so that you know they are safe, you pay them anywhere between $200-500 pesos equivalent to $3 for a short ride from A>B.
But the dune buggies and quad bikes are popular for tourists to use.
I highly recommend getting to see Limon Waterfalls, and I did a day trip to visit 4 secluded beaches.

Out of the beaches tried, Playa Las Ballenas was the calmest, but nice waters and quieter vibe to Punta Popy.
Overall joyous experience for a solo traveller, I stayed at TAKUMA Hotel.

Las galeras is what the more touristy spots (punta cana and puerto plata) were 30 years ago. It is much more primitive but the beaches are amazing and there many to visit. the facilities are mixed - you can find high end resorts and simple rooms to rent. the restaurants are more than adequate but this town does not have the volume of people to keep all perfect all the time expect the mediocre and enjoy when all is great.

El valle is very very rural and wild. We wanted total relax and this place is perfect for this. There’s only a few hotels and all of them have this eco-sustainable vibe that is amazing. If you’re staying at a house (not a hotel) I recommend buying good in Samaná before coming. There’s only very little “colmados” that have maybe ice, been and chips but not big like a super market. There’s not a a lot of restaurants either. Only a few of the hotels have them. There’s a local (and cheap) one called DON PIRON where you have a variety of dishes. There’s a pizzeria also.
I also recommend a 4x4 car or at least one that’s not small, the roads are not in perfect shape and there’s lots of dirt roads.

It is a small town, with some good and some bad beaches. Best if them is Moron. Streets are very tight, and with many curves. There aren't many food options and during the night-time, I didn't felt secure enough to walk on the street. A good point is for the El Limon waterfall, which is a must-see.

This accommodation is not in Sanchez. It’s on the main road about 30 minutes passed Sanchez on samana island. Perfect location for us to explore Samana island. Trekking, whale tours, horseback riding, waterfalls beaches and more.

The proximity to restaurants and night life was terrific. The resort itself was great. We loved the unit we were in. Also, the restaurant on the property was very good. A few more street lights between the resort and the main drag would be helpful. Otherwise, it was an easy walk to everything.

There were a number of good restaurants.
There were a number of good restaurants. As we were there for only 24 hours we only had supper and lunch, both good. Whale watching was the reason for our visit , which we thoroughly enjoyed. Again Ana our host suggested the company which had a marine Biologist Kim who was extremely knowledgeable and experienced.

Las Galeras is still rural, with small but comfortable and high-quality hotels. It is an area for ecotourists or lovers of quiet and more unspoiled beaches without the structure and depersonalization of a resort. There are many small hotels and many French-run restaurants that compete with the locals. I recommend going to the local restaurants and try their excellent Creole food. It is effortless to move around the Galeras, although with great caution, because the locals drive their motorcycles and cars with a lot of anarchy and little respect for traffic rules. Our favorite restaurant was Los Conucos. It is a family atmosphere, run by Alba and her husband. Juana, the mother, is the cook, and the daughters take care of the place. It has a barbecue that is very popular with the locals. Their creole dishes are delicious. We paid an average of 25 dollars for two people, including beer. On our next visit, we would like to have cleaner beaches.

Unfortunately the beaches around weren't in the best conditions. However, that wasn't the hotel's fault. It was the fault of a tropical storm that had passed 2 months prior which affected everything. Despite this, the hotel staff did their best to recommend other activities like hikes and waterfalls, which were amazing. The food at the hotel restaurant is amazing. The location in which you stay has the mixture of being clearly in a tourist accommodated hotel but with a touch of the real Dominican experience. Prices around the whole area are quite fair. My main complaint would be that getting there in your own vehicle is complicated because of the conditions of the road for the last 20 minutes of the drive, as well as the conditions of the roads to get to the waterfalls. However, still an amazing trip. Would definitely return and recommend to friends and family.
