RomaniaWe have been there in late January 2025 and despite the freezing temperatures outside, the suite felt very cosy and intimate, even if it has big windows with beautiful winter view. Also it has everything you need, with the little kitchen impressively fully equipped. It was spotless clean everywhere, parking space in front of the place, wi-fi was great. For Aurora hunters it's a perfect place, you can walk outside and see it from the frozen lake nearby. We enjoyed our stay there and we'll definitely come back.

United KingdomI had wanted to book Saivaara Cottages a couple of years ago during the Covid nonsense over New Year, but someone obviously booked before I managed to arrange the flights; and whoever booked was unbelievably lucky, because the place is simply fantastic - and we got to enjoy it for 8 days this year before Christmas. Simply put, Saivaara Cottages are wonderful - the accommodation, the owners, the location - everything about the place is superb; and we will be coming again. We have stayed elsewhere in Kilpisjarvi before, but Saivaara Cottages was most definitely worth the wait. Hopefully Saivaara Cottages will have space for us net time.

Kilpisjärvi in winter is a magical experience. The village is located in the far north of Finland, in the heart of Lapland. It is a popular destination for winter activities such as skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. Enontekiö is a large area in north east Finland, and it is...
Enontekiö is a large area in north east Finland, and it is mostly void of people, which is excellent. There are a few villages, like Hetta, commonly called Enontekiö, where you can find everything you need.
Enontekiö boasts many of the most dramatic sceneries in Finland, like Saana and Halti fells, in the 'arm' (Käsivarsi), and palsasuot (permafrost-hill mires). It's excellent for hiking, berry- and mushroom-picking, and visiting one or more of the many national parks and Sami sacred places at hand.
In Hetta, we stayed at Ounasloma for the 4th time. It is a family-owned holiday cottage business, which provides actual fully-furnished houses with sauna, and the lakeshore is just next door, boats and bikes are at disposal.
We had our own food, but one evening we grabbed burgers and chips from the local grillikiosi (opposite k supermarket and alko), and not only was the lady very friendly, but the kioski sells bare necessities and the burgers are huge and excellent.
I only wait to go back, discover more of the nature around, and maybe finally climb the Saana fell, which was foggy (and therefore very dangerous) when we were there.

Typical countryside Finnish breakfast.
As everywhere in Finnish forests there may
be some mosquitoes in the summer, on open
windy places there are not.
If you like outdoor life and countryside, this is a good
place for you.

Hiking trails are well signposted.
Hiking trails are well signposted. The supermarket at the center is very good. Public transport connections could be better but the twice-daily bus to/from Rovaniemi is very reliable. Tour operators organize day tours to the Acrtic Sea in Norway. They sound good but unfortunately were cancelled in summer 2021 due to the covid crap.
