As a celiac, the gluten free breakfast was my highlight! The staff knew about the disease, so there was different breads and everything was labeled. The sauna was great as well after a long day on the bike!

The House is fantastic, Tuija is a lovely person. She's a fantastic mother and a fantastic grandmother. Beautiful location on the river that divide up Sverige and Finland. Clean, comfortable and with a special bonus: sausages cooked on the fireplace. We have lived a dream with snow and northern lights and we have leaved our heart in your house. 10! Kiss from Italy. We traveled in mid december and were mesmerized by the snow covered landscape all around. The traditional wooden house is very aesthetically designed, has a fully equipped kitchen with an electric sauna inside the bathroom. One is treated to stunning views right from the windows. The location is quite central (all essential facilities like the gas station, grocery store, restaurants etc. are within 2mins of driving distance) yet perfectly peaceful and quiet. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. We stayed for 3 nights and were lucky to see the northern lights from the apartment itself.

Kilpisjärvi in winter is a magical experience.

Kilpisjärvi in winter is a magical experience. The village is located in the far north of Finland, in the heart of Lapland. It is a popular destination for winter activities such as skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. The area is also known for its stunning scenery, with snow-covered forests, frozen lakes, and the majestic Saana fell. One of the highlights of a winter trip to Kilpisjärvi is the opportunity to see the Northern Lights. The village is located in an area with minimal light pollution, making it an ideal place to view this natural phenomenon. The Northern Lights can be seen on clear nights throughout the winter, but the best time to see them is during the darkest months of December and January. Kilpisjärvi is also a great place to experience the Sami culture. The Sami are the indigenous people of Lapland, and they have a rich history and culture. There are several Sami villages in the area, and visitors can learn about the Sami way of life by visiting a reindeer farm or a traditional Sami market. Overall, Kilpisjärvi is a wonderful place to visit in winter. It is a great destination for those who want to experience the beauty of Lapland and enjoy a variety of winter activities.

Enontekiö is a large area in north east Finland, and it is...

Enontekiö is a large area in north east Finland, and it is mostly void of people, which is excellent. There are a few villages, like Hetta, commonly called Enontekiö, where you can find everything you need. Enontekiö boasts many of the most dramatic sceneries in Finland, like Saana and Halti fells, in the 'arm' (Käsivarsi), and palsasuot (permafrost-hill mires). It's excellent for hiking, berry- and mushroom-picking, and visiting one or more of the many national parks and Sami sacred places at hand. In Hetta, we stayed at Ounasloma for the 4th time. It is a family-owned holiday cottage business, which provides actual fully-furnished houses with sauna, and the lakeshore is just next door, boats and bikes are at disposal. We had our own food, but one evening we grabbed burgers and chips from the local grillikiosi (opposite k supermarket and alko), and not only was the lady very friendly, but the kioski sells bare necessities and the burgers are huge and excellent. I only wait to go back, discover more of the nature around, and maybe finally climb the Saana fell, which was foggy (and therefore very dangerous) when we were there.

Nice place for people who like nature, forests and lakes.

Nice place for people who like nature, forests and lakes. Good Finnish sauna and a lake for swimming. Typical countryside Finnish breakfast. As everywhere in Finnish forests there may be some mosquitoes in the summer, on open windy places there are not. If you like outdoor life and countryside, this is a good place for you. The staff was very friendly!

Hiking trails are well signposted.

Hiking trails are well signposted. The supermarket at the center is very good. Public transport connections could be better but the twice-daily bus to/from Rovaniemi is very reliable. Tour operators organize day tours to the Acrtic Sea in Norway. They sound good but unfortunately were cancelled in summer 2021 due to the covid crap.
