The riverside location is excellent: 13 kilometers to the Petkeljärvi National Park, 6 kilometers to the historical Öykkösevaara battlegrounds and short walking distance (less than a kilometer) to the Möhkö Ironworks Museum and the Arboretum Möhkö. There is a good swimming pier along the river which is also a good fishing area. You can buy special fishing permits from the hotel and it is free to use a rowing boat. You get one free sauna bathing (1½ hours) in the wood-heated riverside sauna if you book at least three nights in the hotel. Our apartment (a small apartment named Sikki for 4 persons) was actually large and our kitchen was well equipped (a fridge, a microwave oven, a water kettle, a steamer and an electric wok). We also got a portable induction cooker (we had asked it in advance). Every apartment has an own entrance and the area is noiseless. It is also interesting that this is the easternmost hotel of the continental European Union.

I arrrived at the hotel at 20.15 and, although the kitchen closes at 20.00, dinner was prepared for me with a big smile. Breakfast was great the next day, the owner and staff were very friendly to me. You feel at home when staying there.

It was much cosier than in the pictures and was spotlessly clean. This small resort functioned like a well oiled machine and the caretaker was on hand offering assistance/ taking conscientious care of ploughing the snow to aid our exit and entry to the property. It was very very cold when we visited and the snow was mounding up continuously, but there was firewood on tap and the sauna was wonderful. and the view/ position amongst the trees was just idyllic. The cabins are in the perfect location for visiting Koli national park; witnessing the crown snow load alone was worth the drive from Helsinki. For anyone doing the same be aware that driving in the snow can increase the predicted driving time by 1/3!

Very nice and clean cottages! More spacious than the squaremeters let to expect and very cozy. Bathrooms are quite large and kitchen well equipped. Location is right on the corner of the citycenter and everything is within walking distance.

We stayed for one night. The room was very clean and well equipped. Staff was professional, kind, helpful. Everything we ate for breakfast was very tasty. For lunch we had pizzas which we would recommend to everyone. The spa was relaxing.

I have been visiting Joensuu since 2012.

I have been visiting Joensuu since 2012. In the winter season, the city looks very beautiful as it gets covered with a fantastic blanket of snow. The sight of the frozen river is just stunning! I love the city for its cozy and peaceful atmosphere and the kindness of the locals.

Koli National Park was formed by tens of thousands of years of erosion during the Ice Age, so the trails and hills are covered with large and small rocks. There are rich landscape changes during the journey. In autumn, the leaves are dyed red, yellow and orange. With a variety of colorful scenes, Koli National Park is a great place to enjoy autumn scenery. Climbing up the hills, you will see a 180-degree view of the lake unfolding in front of you, and you will be shocked by the magnificent scenery - and the trails are also very beautiful. The signs are very clear, so you don’t have to worry about getting lost if you’re walking alone.

The snow is perfect there, clean, deep and fresh. If you know where to go, Outokumpu and the countryside around it have a lot to offer. To me, it is very magical and I love the old mine. People are very friendly.

A small town in East Finland that has some good restaurants...

A small town in East Finland that has some good restaurants and local coffee shops but there is not much to do. The town is not touristic and there are not that many places to visit. However, the Botanical gardens are interesting and the Joensuu church is also worth visiting.

There is a good shop and hotel in the middle of the village,...

There is a good shop and hotel in the middle of the village, plus also another hotel on the top of the hill "Koli". Neart he village also "Räsävaara" observation tower allowing good views to the forest landscape and lake. Also the new hotel in the Kolinkylä village is easy to see from observation tower. You need a car to get around.

The old mine was very interesting and had great outdoor and indoor playgrounds for kids. Nice beaches a short drive away, the one at Särkiselkä camping has a diving platform, and kayaks, canoes and SUP boards on hire.

The city was big enough to provide all the amenities we needed without being too big. People were friendly. We could access anything within walking distance of the hotel. As cyclists, we were so happy to see so many bikes out even in winter!

It's a small but cute little place with excellent hiking...

It's a small but cute little place with excellent hiking options. Few other locations along with Koli are close by in case you wish to see more. Very easy to get to see the Akka-, Ukko- and Paha-Koli and enjoy the view to lake Pielinen. I recommend to drive also to the harbour and see lake Pielinen also from the shore.
