The staff was the best thing about the place and were very helpful. They had sledges for pulling kids along and good advice for where to go for a hike. The sauna was free to use between evening hours and was well maintained. There is a small market within the place and if you don't want to, you don't need to go out in the cold to buy microwavable food, milk, beer, or souvenirs. Perfect place for a snowy vacation.

Jaana and Mika made our stay so enjoyable. The cabins are lovely, the perfect distance out of town to relax in between all of the fantastic activities our hosts helped us book. Easy access into Saariselka, great cooking facilities in the cabin and an authentic Finnish experience.
Jaana booked our activities for us which was so easy. All transfers were included as well as the thicker winter suits and boots that kept us warm and dry. If the weather wasn’t in our favour, it was no problem when the activity needed to be rescheduled. Jaana had it all sorted for us in a flash.
Very sad to leave this gorgeous place.

The property is easily to locate. If you are using bus to go around, this is the perfect place for it as the bus stop is literally in front of the camp. The staff was super duper nice, they also help us about the buses schedule and let us have late check out since our bus was late. The best part is we got to see aurora just as we opened the door from our room. So if you are wondering if you can see the auroras from this camp, yes you can! (if you lucky of course). You can also catch the bus to Saariselka ski resort from here.
Also the frozen lake is very beautiful. Wish we stayed there longer.

We had a great week at the village. The cabins just look as on the pictures and you can perfectly watch stars and nothern lights from the bed. The offered activities (we did Huskey tour and snow mobile tour) were well organized and really exciting! The food is just great and you can flexibly have lunch. The village offers several kind of equipment - from cross country skies to snow overalls, all free of charge.

Such a warm and cozy cabin to sleep in. The Northern Lights Village also offers additional tours can be booked separately. With a SKi bus that comes through regularly.Was worth the price. It also included all 3 meals complimentary.

Great resort place, west village right next to husky farm and horse farm. Decent planetarium also, but they need to learn a bit about running these shows :).
Do install the Aurora app if you are there for this. The Aurora alarm in rooms don't work, or atleast didn't work for me.

Ivalo itself was cute. Not too touristy, much quieter than places close by and everyone so friendly with a well stocked supermarket. Not too many places to eat but it depends what you’re looking for. As a young family, it was perfect for us!

Saariselka is a wonderland in winter.
Saariselka is a wonderland in winter. You can easily get all the required things such as food from K-market. There are lots of activities you can do in Saariselka such as skiing, snowshoeing, Ice Karting, bowling, Aurora Hunting tours, etc. You can easily reach here from Rovaniemi City by using public bus. There is a Ski bus that runs between Saariselka village and Saarselka Ski resort. I did my beginner ski lesson here. It was great. I spent my Christmas holidays here and most things are available to do. I did my skiing on Christmas day itself.

Ivalo is not big, but it is strategically positioned between Rovaniemi and Inari. Amazing location to admire the northern lights and visit Inari. Nature is incredible and it looks less touristy than Rovaniemi.

We spent a total of 7 days in Lapland. 2 near Ivalo, 3 in Kiilopaa, 2 in Saariselka proper. As a family some liked Ivalo better, others Kiilopaa, and others Saariselka. We stayed for 7 days to maximize our chances to see the Northern Lights and were fortunate to see them for 2 nights in a row. If we weren’t concerned about seeing Northern Lights, in terms of special “Lapland specific” experiences, I would have been satisfied with maybe 2 or 3 nights (husky, reindeer, snowmobile, ice fishing). But, if you spend extra days, there’s plenty to do — ice karting, cross country ski, snow shoe-Ing, ski/snowboarding, Siida museum, etc.

Best place to view Northern lights.
Best place to view Northern lights. Unique Husky ride , and snow mobile tours. Winter sports like skiing , cross country , snow walking.
Dreamy Winter Wonderland landscape ! Everything covered in snow is a picture perfect view .
Stay in a Glass Igloo cabin to view Northern lights ( weather permitted)
Renting a car is highly recommended , easy to get around even on an icy road . We used Alamo . Excellent car .
Book all your tours in advance to avoid disappointment .
Have fun and enjoy the cold . Be prepare to bring thermal clothing .
Ivalo is a perfect Winter Wonderland Destination !
