In a pretty village. Easily accessible to restaurants/bars etc. The owner was there to meet us when we arrived and directed us to a parking space. She helped with luggage and was very welcoming. Great breakfast in the morning. Plenty of choice.

Not only did we receive a warm welcome when we arrived but our dog did too! Our room had plenty of space to relax comfortably and a terrace with an ocean view.     Fantastic location looking out over 'La Grande Plage' and within easy walking distance of the 'Fisherman's Port' which had some great restaurants. Close to main shopping and fish market where you can try a good selection of oysters. We booked the residence parking which was convenient but only really suitable for small cars. To be honest, the airport was 8 minutes from residence so in future we'd just use a taxi. Lovely walks all along beach in both directions. We will definitely be returning. The Victoria Residence staff were welcoming and helpful, especially Laura, who was very kind.

    Bayonne is a lovely town in the middle of the French Basque area. The old town is totally walkable with lots of shops, bars, chocolate stores, sidewalk cafes, and great restaturants. One can just stroll around and decide which restaurant to enjoy.

    Saint-Jean-de-Luz is a very pleasant little town on the South-west coast of France. Its beach is nicely sheltered from the wild Bay of Biscay, making it safe and attractive. We stayed in a central hotel with easy access to some lovely bars and restaurants serving delicious local cuisine. It's an easy drive into the countryside; we climbed a mountain called Larrun, part of the Pyrenees, then easily back to St Jean de Luz for a swim and out for dinner! Also some good local shops.

    We know the area and were primarily there to visit a friend.

    We know the area and were primarily there to visit a friend. We were on a budget so had to use public transport, which turned out to be super easy to use. You can pay with cash or bank card directly on the bus (you can only buy one ticket with a bank card, however) or you can buy a loaded card with ten tickets (which you can use for more than one person) at machines at train stations, principal stops and tobacconists. Timetables are given at bus stops and are accurate. Make sure you know when the public holidays are, as these affect public transport considerably. The bus journey to Biarritz station is less than half an hour (depending on the route they take) and from there you can travel quickly and inexpensively to St Jean de Luz, Bayonne and elsewhere. The three towns I have mentioned are so close by, yet so contrasting and are all worth a visit. The number 36 bus (a little further away from the apartment - maybe 8-10 mins walk) give you access to beaches up the coast, like La Madrague. I used Google Maps a lot and found its advise re: public transport super helpful. My teenage girls loved the frothy hot chocolate at Chez Cazenave in Bayonne, https://www.chocolats-bayonne-cazenave.fr/4-nos-chocolats. On our last night, we ate at Casa Juan Pedro, http://casajuanpedro.com/en/home, in Biarrtiz's old port. They were welcoming, and the food was delicious and simply presented (our party includes seafood enthusiasts and picky eaters).

    Lovely, long beach.

    Lovely, long beach. Quieter than St Jean de Luz, but still with a good choice of small restaurants, often specialising in fish/seafood. Good public transport links, not expensive, to be able to visit other nearby villages and towns of the Basque Country Lovely walk up over the headland, or instead -a little stroll along the promenade. Visited Hondaribbia in Spain by a very short boat trip that leaves from Hendaye port. Beautiful little village-nice pintxos in the restaurants ! And good view from up by the castle. The historic little train de la Rhune up the mountainside not to be missed-but book ahead-it gets full. The chateau d’Abbadia is interesting.

It is a charming place with beautiful beaches, stunning views of the Pyrenees, and vibrant Basque culture. It is a true Paradise for runners and those who likes long promenades. Fort de Socoa and area around is beautiful in any time of the day and you can find many outstanding restaurants there with affordable prices. You can reach St Jean de Luz by foot in 20 mins from Fort Socoa, and in 10 min from Ciboure Eglise (which is worth to visit!!!). and of course you can explore the nearby beautiful villages!

    Bidart is a wonderful place to visit.

    Bidart is a wonderful place to visit. The residence where I stayed was very kind to us. It also offers excellent relaxation services and a beautiful landscape that provides peace and comfort to visitors. It was a pleasure to stay there.

    This is a pretty Pays Basque village with a fabulous church...

    This is a pretty Pays Basque village with a fabulous church at its centre (see my photos). It has all the usual French shops for bread, wine, cheese, pharmacy needs, plus several bars, cafes and restaurants. There is a large hypermarket half way between the village and the hotel, which includes a petrol station and a 24-hour (outdoor) launderette. The hotel is actually a few kilometres out of town but still in the "commune" of St Pee sur Nivelle. There are no facilities (hypermarkets, small shops, bars etc) in reasonable walking distance of the hotel, so you need transport. But the food and bar in the hotel is excellent, as are the staff.

    Biarritz is an absolute treasure of a place to visit.

    Biarritz is an absolute treasure of a place to visit. It has so much on offer and if you like surfing, there are multiple places to hire boards and wetsuits as well as a large number of surf schools. We LOVED the swimming beach too and the aquarium. There are many food options for different budgets. As the weather was so nice, we got take away food most evenings and sat on the beach, watching the sun set. There are many restaurants and the brunch scene is big with lots of pretty places to choose from, I highly recommend Les Halles covered market and the little train to get a feel for where everything is. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and we are already planning our return trip!
