Old Town was wonderful.
Old Town was wonderful. Watch out for the thieving bar stewards on the tram - We thought we could tap on tap off, but it didn't work. We thought we would get to the end and explain to the ticket collectors and pay the fare. Instead the ticket collectors were fine collectors. 60 euros each fine for a 2 minute tram journey. There were at least 10 English people queuing up to ask for help and all they got was a fine too. I would have resisted and waited for Plod to turn up which is what they were threatening, but i only had 2 days and didn't fancy spending one of those days in a cell;)Guest review bychrisUnited Kingdom - 10.0
I really loved Marseille.
I really loved Marseille. I was travelling alone and had been warned that it was dangerous, but I moved around quite freely in well-frequented areas, at night, too, and never felt uneasy. There are, of course, people sleeping rough, but you get that in any big city. I only had a weekend, so didn't manage all the sights and museums but I can recommend the following: Go to the Vieux Port on a Saturday morning for the fish and flower market around and under the Ombrière, an amazing mirrored pavilion by Norman Foster. Catch the bus up to Notre Dame de la Garde for the church and a great view of the city. Don't try to walk up. It's further than it looks and very steep. Back at sea level, splurge 50 cents on the little ferry to cross the water to Le Panier. Wander around this ancient area, taking in the Vielle Charité - great free exhibition. Don't miss Rue Beauregard with its graffiti and pot plants. On another day walk along to Fort St Jean for more sea views and, an absolute must, the Cosquer cave experience, a completely un-kitschy replica of the palaeolithic underwater cave, now inaccessible, with many ancient drawings. You chug round in little self-driving cars with headphones providing an excellent guided tour in a selection of languages. It was a highlight. A weekend was a bit short. I would have liked to visit the islands off the coast. I think 4 days would be ideal.Guest review byLyndaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Cannes is a beautiful place to visit because of nice people, the cleanliness of the place, the beach, the shops and so many events happening in that place. You can wear anything you want and the restaurants and market are great.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Lots of wonderful monuments and historical buildings to visit. Transport system excellent once you have got used to it. Clean and comfortable. A multitude of cafes to choose from. A vibrant city with lots of young people but no trouble. A lot of dog waste though unfortunately.Guest review byBarbaraUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We stayed in a hotel within the walls and that was lovely (Auberge des Lices) and we visited the old town as well as the city. So much to see and do! This was our second visit and we were not disappointed (other than the note below). A slight caveat as one of party was disabled is that the walled City is not particularly disabled friendly. Those who stay in the other lovely hotels are afforded luggage transfer but those less fortunate with mobilty have to struggle waith bags and have to be able to walk quite a few hundred metres to get to a gate other than the main entrance which is the nearest to the Cite car parks. A golf cart type facility would I am sure assist even if there was a charge... Just saying :-)Guest review byRichardUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lovely little gem of a town, lots of medieval history and a good food and drinks scene. People are really friendly and a lot speak a bit of English if your French isn’t very good! It’s a very walkable town as well, and I recommend the little train tour to give you some history and context for the place.Guest review byCarolineUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Menton is an ideal place to visit for those who like walking. A lovely town centre, mostly traffic free, with lots of cobbled streets and plenty of shops to explore. Also a very long seafront with a wide choice of restaurants to suit all tastes.Guest review byBrianUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Love the wide avenues, the incredible Roman sites and museum. Paradoxically I wasn't able to extend my stay because of the Feria - a giant oarty involvingvthe whole city and booking out all but the most expensive rooms. Regrettably the arena was closed on the lastv2 days I was there because of the Feria.🥲Guest review byMacleodAustralia
