Spectacular location. Welcoming hosts - nothing was too much trouble. Lovely breakfast room and a filling breakfast. A very enjoyable one night stay. We booked a small room but it had everything we needed. The bathroom was quite small but once again there was good use of the space. We would have loved to stay longer.

We liked the peaceful location, the little red squirrels in the morning and the general location for plenty of walking places. The cabin was lovely and homely and had everything you could possibly need. The communication and information from the owners was brilliant but not intrusive.

Perfect for a weekend in Dunoon. Very friendly and helpful staff. Sea view was amazing. Good location. Obviously it’s an older, more classic seaside hotel which over time will get the refurb it needs, but the staff do a great job to make it welcoming and enjoyable. Recommend !

I lived in Dunoon for two years 1963-65 and the return visit with my family sixty years later was bittersweet as I remembered the vibrant village of years ago and saw too many closed stores where I used to shop but that is the nature of change. Dunoon owns part of my heart. Best wishes to the leaders there to restore the best of it and lose the shabby shops along the main street. ❤️

Lodge has everything you need. Site has amazing facilities, with the majority free. The lodge is about a 10 - 15 minute walk to the on-site shop (depending if you have a wee one with you). Whole place is pet friendly and a lovely part of Scotland.

Had a short break, for a birthday, squeezed into a busy couple of weeks, would have liked to stay a bit longer. Weather wasn't great, we would have done more beach stuff if it had been, however, the spa facilities were great and we are thinking of visiting for days out, or even an overnight stay, we live fairly nearby on Kintyre. We were able to drive out to explore the area more than previously when "just passing through" Cowal. However, one should bear in mind that all the single track roads make this quite tiring as you get older!

We loved the hotel we stayed in, the walkable neighbourhood by the bay& friendly village store. our children were young adults and so the quiet peaceful environment suited them away from their normal city life. There may be less to do for younger children. the views on route to the coast were spectacular

The hotel is very comfortable with a beautiful garden and views of the Loch. There is a seating area in front of the hotel and a lovely bar with friendly staff. The food is Indian and very nice. There are beautiful walks and ancient trees and plants just 2 Minutes from the Hotel, you could spent days with exploring. A Castle near by organises classical music Concerts and Castle Tours. The gardens are magical and worth a visit.

It was just lovely.

It was just lovely. The house was beautiful and well decorated and had lovely old architectural features. The bedroom was very nice and spacious. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was so good!! Lots of food and all delicious. Can’t say enough good things about Avril and Sue. Great ladies with a heart for hospitality. We especially appreciated our afternoon tea after arriving.

We absolutely loved our time in Sandbank, a delightful coastal village just a stone’s throw from Dunoon. The atmosphere is wonderfully laid-back—perfect for families and dog-walkers alike—with stunning views across the Firth of Clyde and an air of peaceful seclusion without feeling isolated. The local community is friendly and welcoming, and there's an abundance of beautiful walking routes, from gentle shoreline paths to woodland trails. We enjoyed relaxing by the water, spotting boats drifting by, and soaking in some gorgeous sunsets after busy days of exploring. With its quiet charm, natural beauty, and easy access to nearby shops and eateries in Dunoon, Sandbank makes a fabulous base for anyone seeking a restful escape in Scotland’s west coast hills.

Main place I visited was Benmore Botanical Gardens - lots to explore and the rhododendrons and azaleas in May are spectacular. No cafe now sadly but a short trip away in Blairmore there is a cafe run by the lady who used to run the cafe at Benmore - didn't manage to visit it this time but was recommended to me. I stayed at the Creggans Inn and mainly ate there - excellent place to stay or visit for a meal - food was superb and a good base for exploring the area. Roads well maintained and easy to get round - visited Inverary Castle on the other side of the loch. Again superb gardens and the castle itself is stunning well worth visiting. The town itself also very picturesque. On the way to Inverary there is the Loch Fyne Restaurant and Tree shop garden centre and cafe - well worth a visit and picked up some beautiful rhododendrons at the tree shop. Nearby there is also a local farm brewery Fyne Ales - it has a shop and taproom where you can sample their ales and buy them or have a coffee and cake ! The weather was a bit patchy - usually it is fine in May but nonetheless a superb place to visit.

Regular ferries.

Regular ferries. Lots of catering and pubs and quirky shops. Beautiful old churches and regular activities in the Castle House museum and the Burgh Hall. Swimminig, cinema, supermarkets. Lovely nature trails, walks and climbs within walking distance of town centre.
