- From $213.98 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 1,105 reviewsThe room was quiet but for the afternoon/evening hours, since our window was just above an outdoor cafe/bar. We needed the circulation so we had to keep it open. By bedtime it was quiet again. The room was small, but that is usually the case in European accommodations. The beds were pushed together but they had set it with separate linens to accommodate 2 singles sharing the bed. The room had a sitting area between the bed and ensuite facility, furnished with a small divan, chair and coffee table. The furniture was not really needed and made the space seem even smaller. We only stayed one night so I suppose anyone staying longer would have found the sitting area accommodating. The room was very clean. The staff was extremely accommodating - twice retrieving 'lost' items, and even holding onto one we did not discover missing until several days after we had left town. We happened to be in Skiddaw later in the week, and on a chance we stopped by to inquire if they had perhaps found and saved it. They still had the item! This is an item that could easily have been tossed into the trash, not knowing it contained a dental retainer. That item would have been quite expensive to replace! The desk attendant tried to help us locate a taxi for our departing day's journey, but in the end none were available on short notice. Fortunately we discovered a public bus that took us right to the doorstep of our country guesthouse for a fraction of the cost!Guest review byJanisUnited States
- From $228.21 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 373 reviewsTerrance was brilliant, i arrived slightly later then expected, but was greeted well and prompty show my room for the duration of the stay. Traditional English Manor turned into a B&B, Bed was comfortable, TV, ample lights. Hot chocolate, Coffee and Tea avaliable in the rooms. Towels, Robes and personal soap and shower cap provided. Breakfast was brilliant, again traditional english/upper class apperance. See photos below. Waiter was polite and attentive. Overall very warm welcome, i only stayed the one night, but when in the area again i'll be sure to book. I enjoyed reading the history and the various paintings around the old house, including an old Charter from the 1800s. Highly recommended.Guest review byChezneyUnited Kingdom
- From $187.24 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very Good - What previous guests thought, 531 reviewsGreat location in the town centre. The breakfast was delicious and definitely amazing value for money. The hotel is also very dog friendly, there were some bowls and dog bed waiting for us upon check in. Also, they provided dog towels upon request - quite handy considering how muddy & rainy the dogs might get there. Lovely place overall, will be staying here again when we’re back in Keswick that’s for sure!Guest review byKatUnited Kingdom

This is a tiny market town (almost a village!) in Cumbria.
This is a tiny market town (almost a village!) in Cumbria. However, it has access to all of the lakes, boat trips, walking everything you need for a trip. There are a million climbing/walking shops in the town centre so if you forget anything it's all there. As for food plenty restaurants and cafes some very pricey others not. There is a Weatherspoons there which was packed morning noon and night for food if you don't want to pay for pricey places. There is a nice selection of bars too most do food and some are really foody places rather than bars. Dogs everywhere so if you are allergic - avoid! There is a wonderful supermarket there - Booths - which has everything you need if you are catering this yourself. Enjoy! If you aren't into climbing/walking then two nights is more than enough for just a relaxing weekend away.Guest review byNETripsUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Cockermouth is a lovely town and makes it easy to reach other places at the north of the Lake District. Places to visit Maryport, Silloth, Keswick., Whinlatter. Cockermouth itself has lovely walk along the river and play areas for children.Guest review byGabrielle - 8.0
The pebble beach is nice.
The pebble beach is nice. The village is nice, but it’s not somewhere that you would visit unless visiting people or going to the beach. There is a post office and a couple of pubs, We had lunch in the Manor, which was nice.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0

Fine town with easy access to beautiful lake district. Has all you need in close proximity. Lots of dodgy driving in town. Stay frosty! If you're exploring the lakes this is great access and after adventure comforts.Guest review byGaryUnited Kingdom - 10

Calder House Hotel looked to have great views out to sea with a fabulous beach. We experienced a tired run down establishment with a ‘couldn’t be bothered’ staff attitude. Dismissive and inattentive, we would never go back.Guest review byWendyUnited Kingdom - 10
A quaint little Georgian town on the edge of the Lake...
A quaint little Georgian town on the edge of the Lake District, with a scenic harbour. The Rum Story & Jefferson's Shop is a must see and The Beacon Museum is definitely worth a visit. You can walk on the pier all the way to the end, be careful in bad weather, the block floor is not even. Lots of nice buildings around, many have seen better days but worth a walk around the town. The courtyard and gardens at the little church on Lowther Street are very scenic. The waters in the Queens Dock are an orange colour from the iron leaking in, certainly makes it unique and memorable (investigations into resolving it are underway). The Former Wellington Pit site gives a great view over the town. Lots of local pubs around, I must give a special mention to The Vagabond bar / restaurant, probably the best pizzas we've ever tasted anywhere.Guest review byGregoryUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Great little place if you want to stay a night after a big walk very cozy and comfortable the weather wasn’t amazing when we were there but added to the cosiness, of the little Shepherds hut hearing the rain outside had a great time. Would stay again.Guest review byNinaUnited Kingdom
