Staff are really accommodating and loved the touch of being shown to our room. We stayed in the “leather” room which was tastefully decorated. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was hot and had good pressure. Breakfast was amazing - definitely recommend the full English, the black pudding was delicious!

The hotel someone gets a low rating but I booked a single room which they upgraded to a double for free. It's super clean and modern. Comfy bed with a tv that actually works...you can beam to TV as its a smart one to mirror your phone and has access to Netflix and amazon prime etc. Staff are friendly...it's a two star I think hotel but is probably better than most four or five stars that I've stayed in.

We loved walking around.

We loved walking around. We liked the vibrant and colourful city centre. The variety of shops, cafes and restaurants is amazing. We enjoyed the Cathedral, the cobbled streets, the ruins dotted about the city centre and New Walk is a must with its beautiful old lamps scattered about. Lots to see for everyone.

We stayed just a night, but enjoyed the relaxed local scene. We never felt on ceremony within the town, It's not a really lively night scene were we stayed, but we found good, friendly service in a down-to-earth pub bar near our hotel. We went to a University Open day, so can't comment much on the town.

We had dinner at pizzeria inferno, it was really the highlight. Service was great and had some seafood linguini that I am still thinking about, a week on. The town itself is as unremarkable as any town in the midlands. The current politics' events had it also covered in Union Jacks and St. George's Crosses. If that's your thing, you are in for a treat. No wonder Frodo and Sam preferred to walk for months into Mordor, to get out of the shire.

My favorite place was Saint Mary's Church (Attention: only open from 12 to 2!!) with the monument of Wycliffe, the painings and its very special atmosphere. The exposition in HIGH POINT is very interesting too because of Wycliffe. I made a nice walk along the river Swift where Wycliffes bones have been burnt about 600 years ago. When you stay at Grey Hound Inn (with its great history) eating doesn't need te be a problem. They have everything for reasonable prices.

Melton Mowbray is a pretty market town with a lot going for it in terms of shopping and markets, good rail links, a beautiful parish church, a lovely park by the river, and much in the way of community activities and clubs. The people a friendly. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the village of Scalford, where we stayed is beautiful too. The pub was a lovely place to stay and we felt well looked after, special even, in a beautifully presented pub building. There are lovely towns, historical buildings and parklands and pretty towns and places of interest in the surrounding areas. Lots of history here.
