Question to what did we like? That would be everything! From the first moment of check in to our departure. We would more than highly recommend a stay at the Avoca Hotel. Not only for its amazing location directly across from the Irish Sea and walking distance to experience a lot of Newcastle and access to surrounding sites, but to its most amazing staff! The hotel is so very inviting and offers a very unique environment that can only enhance your visit to Newcastle. The hotel itself and the rooms are very clean with all necessary amenities provided. Tastefully decorated with attention to its upkeep which will only add to your Northern Irland experience. Upon our arrival and settling into our initial room with Annie at reception, we were aware of rooms that had a little seating area in a bay window that faced the sea to which we did not have. With a request to have that window seating Annie graciously took the time to let us view other rooms. Although nothing was available that night, Annie further left messages to our requests for her manager Nicola that may be addressed the next day. To our utter delight Siobhan at reception showed us a most spectacular room with a sea view and large bay window seating area to which they could accommodate us moving to. Siobhan said that they want everyone to be the happiest they could be with their stay at the Avoca Hotel. A true testimonial to that! Beyond that, the breakfast was wonderful with a variety of options for both food and coffee/tea and served with a smile and warmth from Jack. A wonderful way to start your day! And then after a full day of sight seeing you can return to the hotel and enjoying a cocktail at the well stocked bar served by the friendliest staff to include Leona, Mohit and Injaz before preparing for your evening out. We cannot say enough about the Avoca Hotel. We had an amazing stay in Newcastle and praise manager Nicola and her team in being a major factor in that!!!

What a little gem! This unit had it all - the most comfy bed ever, a kitchenette, a dining table, couch and a TV with Netflix plus it was a short and lovely walk into town and the beach!

A very nice hotel, very impressive from the outside.

A very nice hotel, very impressive from the outside. The decor is tastefully decorated. Staff friendly and welcoming. A lovely town, near by and within walking distance. The food in both restaurants was very nice. A room set aside to play pool, board games. Price is a bit expensive, especially when converting sterling to euro.

Rostrevor is a must for anyone visiting Ireland......it is a magical village set against the backdrop of the Mourne Mountains and on the shores of beautiful Carlingford Lough. It is so peaceful and idyllic and offers a perfect mix of tradition, culinary delights, talented artists and good craic! As the song goes......"if you ever go across the sea to Ireland"......make sure you visit Rostrevor

Annalong has a quaint harbour with a mill owned by the National Trust. It does smell a bit in the Summer. It has all the basics you need for holiday making, and it sits in some of Northern Ireland's greatest scenery. The Gallery is convenient and not too costly for meals. The Eurospar has petrol and all you need for stocking your larder. In season, there is an Ice Cream Parlour and Coffee Shop. A drive up Major's Hill to the Head Road, down past the Silent Valley out to Spelga Dam and on down into Rostrevor is a spectacular mountain drive. If you turn right in Rostrevor for Warrenpoint, then park near the Square and visit The Diamond Restaurant - you will not be disappointed in your meal!

Quiet area in the hillside.

Quiet area in the hillside. Olivia helpfulness and good communication throughout our stay. Her generosity in providing milk, tea, butter, treats etc. The warm, cosy, beautifully decorated apartment. Comfortable beds. Spotless space. Wonderful views. Lots of intersting information leaflets on the local area and guided walks.

Loved everything about the apartment.

Loved everything about the apartment. Everything you would need to stay for a few days, wish we could have stayed longer! There was 2 bedrooms so would be great for families. Couldn't recommend enough. Loads of restaurants and pubs nearby for food.

I would certainly recommend this property if the water supply issues were sorted out. This made showering, and washing dishes impossible. Also meant the toilet was out of action for nearly 2 days of our 6 night stay. And according to the visitors book this is a recurring issue. The lane up to the property is, for the most part shared until the last section, which could do with some attention. There are three rental properties at this site, which means you are sharing the outside space with others and their dogs. This is not ideal especially when the owners don't seem to be aware of the country code, and allow their pets to defecate, and don't clean up after them. The furniture outside could do with a little attention.

Newcastle is a typical seaside town, with plenty of facilities, but unfortunately a few years ago it lost it's beautiful sandy beach. Plenty of places to eat, not just fish and chip shops, and a few pubs. Beware of Quinn's on a Saturday night if you don't like loud music. Easy to walk about, though not easy to drive through.

Lovely seaside town with friendly people.

Lovely seaside town with friendly people. A great base for exploring the Mourne mountains. The town has a lovely pizzeria and a good takeaway but the one thing it is missing is a pub. It's a real shame because it would be a lovely place to sit out with a pint on a nice evening.

Hotel owners have done a fine job, re-vamping this hotel. While the fishing port seems to be vibrant and busy the town overall looks neglected with buildings in need of refurbishment and very poor street surfaces. The town needs some good restaurants to showcase its rich fish heritage and activities to keep visitors in the town.
