The hotel was filled with interesting and quirky things and had a peaceful atmosphere. The staff were lovely. The food was delicious, and there were a variety of beautiful areas to dine. My mother and I enjoyed a traditional high tea. Outdoor areas to relax with a drink under a tree or afternoon tea on the balcony. They had an interesting lift to take your luggage up. Our twin room was spacious and clean. A.short walk to the sea. Lovely experience. Highly recommended.

There isn't a lot to see to be honest.

There isn't a lot to see to be honest. Town centre has some impressive Victorian buildings but on Sunday night there was almost nobody around except bored teenagers. The railway museum is designed to cater for families with children and school trips and contains no technical information on the trains in it or the building and operation of the worlds first passenger train line line, which was disappointing.

If it hadn’t been for a family wedding, I would not have chosen to visit Hartlepool. The town felt very run down, with many shops closed and little to do. It came across as a sad and struggling area. Unfortunately, we also experienced a couple of racial incidents, which made us feel uncomfortable. If you are a person of colour, this may not feel like a welcoming or friendly place to visit.

Redcar (-by-the-sea) is trying hard to get back to its glory days (before the peers were demolished) with the refurbishment of the town centre. The beach is long and sandy and the sea water clear and swimmable if you avoid the rocks. The promenade is worth a walk, passed the fishing boats and the oldest lifeboat in the world museum. Not many restaurants but plenty of cafes.

Saltburn is a lovely place, very picturesque with lots of things to do and plenty of places to visit. It has something for everyone a beautiful beach with a pier for a nice walk and a funicular tramway to ride on. It has lots of interesting local shops, and a beautiful park that has an its own miniature railway running through it. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from plus fish and chip shops.

We enjoyed everything. The room, food and staff all excellent. We were disturbed by a sad dog barking for ages but it was dealt with quickly. Excellent accommodation in the woodland wing. Saltburn close by on the coast. Guisbrough a short walk with plenty of shops. Roseberry topping to climb if you're fit.

As a Georgian, elegant market town, with the most amazing viaduct running beside the length of the High Street, Yarm has lots and lots to offer. The on-street parking is a real bonus - used to be free (time-limited), but is now very reasonably priced, and still enables visitors to be at the centre of things immediately.

Lovely little village with some excellent harbour side pubs (with excellent food e.g. Cod and Lobster), galleries and local shops. Sandsend, back towards Whitby, and Runswick Bay well worth the effort too. Also further north to Marske, Redcar and Saltburn well worth the ffort too.

It's an interesting town with old buildings and small shops up alley ways and cut-throughs. There is an excellent library and a theatre. It's only one stop up by train to Durham so visiting the cathedral there is easy. Durham is very hilly and Darlington pretty flat so it's an easy town to get around. and seemed very friendly to visitors.
