From the moment we arrived, we felt staying with family. Jero and four of her five daughters welcomed us warmly. We arrived late, and Jero was kind enough to prepare some dinner for us. Breakfast was abundant. Jero, her daughters, and all staff had always a smile on their lips. Jero had good tips for sightseeing. The hotel is located on an island between two river arms. Sleeping in nature and no noise - a paradise.

This place is absolutely gorgeous and amazing. Catherine and Laurent, the owners, created a luxurious little paradise in a very quite and beautiful location in northeast Bali. You will not find a better place to relax and enjoy the time. We spent 4 days in this magnificent place and we regretted that we had to leave. Catherine, Laurent and their staff provided an outstanding and exceptional service. Everyone is so welcoming we felt immediately being „home“. The owners and staff are amazing and are going above and beyond to make every moment of our stay perfect. The breakfast and dinners are excellent and delicious. We had the pleasure of staying 2 nights at Palmterrace. It is a smaller place which is a great opportunity to truly kick back and relax. It is located on a hillside with stunning views - Lempuyang Temple to the east and Agung to the west. You can rent scooters/motorcycles at the reception and make sure to take day trip as the area has beautiful scenery, rice paddies and sights. The restaurant serves tasty and fresh food making up for the secluded place.

The room we had wasnt even the best they offer but still a beautiful and comfy room. Staff was very kind and helpful. A few good restaurant options nearby. Really feels like a 5 stars. Too bad we didn't have time to try the spa on site.

This is a lovely resort. We had a great welcome and the staff is amazing and super sweet, they made sure that we had a good time. The views is so pretty and the beach is much better than we first thought it would be. The room is so cozy with a lovely terasse. Breakfast is great, you get a lot of food. The view is absolutely stunning! The infinite pool facing the vast ocean is just beyond words. We had breakfast everyday at the balcony facing the sea, and there is a little pathway directly from the hotel to the beach, where you can go snorkelling right a way.

Amed is essentailly frequented by the diving community due to the many outstanding dive locations in the immediate vicinity, and there are numerous restaurants (Warungs) which are very reasonably priced. Easy to explore the local area by hiring a scooter.

The view from the pool is excellent.

The view from the pool is excellent. The building construction needs improving with many examples of poor workmanship, chipped bath, misaligned electricals, tiles falling off. The layout would be great for three couples as all rooms are stand alone, but did not suit our family. The lounge is open air so mosquitos and bugs meant heavy use of DEET. You have to go outside into the rain to enter bedrooms, also not great. This property needs to be finished structurally, with an entire area upstairs not completed and construction equipment lying around.

Normally, It’s a lot quieter than most other towns in Bali. Unfortunately there are major workings to fortify the beach fronts presently. Beach closures are taking place, which apparently may take a further 12 to 24 months to complete.

Padang bai is a transit town for the ferries.

Padang bai is a transit town for the ferries. There are plenty of eateries around. The beach is unfortunately littered with rubbish and stray dogs roam around. It’s not somewhere to stay for long. There is a dive centre so it might be good for that, but for me as a general tourist I wouldn’t take a holiday here. I just stayed for the fast boats.

A little village with one main street.

A little village with one main street. Lots of diving opportunities. There was a 3 day festival happening when we were here that had a night market and dancing, including a fire dance. We got to mingle with the locals, kind folk, which was nice. It's a pretty easy scoot to some of the temples, rice fields, waterfalls, beaches, and attractions in the area. Decent local restaurants, good massages, good accessible shore dives. Easy enough to find a scooter rental for 70k-85k per day, ask the owner of where you're staying. During our stay in late October, there was a lot of haze in the air (maybe from burning?) so unfortunately, there weren't good sunrises or sunsets.

An off beat location, which is actually peaceful and great...

An off beat location, which is actually peaceful and great for nature lovers, adventure seekers and history lovers. It is close to the mother temple of Bali (15 minutes), Blue lagoon diving and Snorkeling, p Pura Tirta and the most amazing rafting site. So a 3-night stay at this place is ideal to cover east Bali and then you can go to Ubud.

We stayed just one night to visit the Gates of Heaven.

We stayed just one night to visit the Gates of Heaven. I feel is enough to see the surroundings and have a feel of the place. We found the tickets a bit expensive. I mean is a nice place but not to pay 10$. You can see Tirtagangga in 20 minutes, depending on whether you are an instagramer and you take selfies in every corner, then you can stay there for over an hour, although is very difficult to take good selfies as there are people everywhere. Around the entrance, there are a few restaurants and shops. But please I would say to the owners or whoever takes care of this place, tell people not to feed the fish. They are huge! and it's because the shops nearby sell food so you can take a picture with the fish.

The area is wonderful with so many things to do.

The area is wonderful with so many things to do. From beautiful beaches, horse riding, ATV driving, ziplining, monkeys, surfing, fishing, great local restaurants and day trips all over the island. Much quieter than the south and west of the island so you get a real look at traditional Balinese culture, not bogan booze buses and nightclubs.

Loved Amed but was only there for 2 nights, would definately...

Loved Amed but was only there for 2 nights, would definately go back for longer. Beautiful people and amazing local food. Great spot if you dont want the hussle and bussle of Kuta/Seminyak or Legian. The black beach was gorgeous and the sunsets were amazing, Great place for divers/snorkelling and fishing.
