The rooms were lovely and clean. We didn't have time to pick up much Italian before our visit and the staff were all lovely, helping us learn and making us feel welcome.

I've known Capraia for decades and this year I was looking forward to taking advantage of the hiking options, the mesmerizing night sky and the general silence that dominates this tiny speck of land. The car ferry trip from Livorno on the Tuscan coast is short (2 hrs 45 mins) and reasonably comfortable. But a strong North Easterly will ruin your travel plans as the crossing might get canceled—and there's ony that one boat serving the island. Capraia is a jewel and its harsh interior fascinating. You may be hiking just minutes away from the town center and suddenly come across a herd of mouflon sheep charging through the Mediterranean scrub. Restaurants are few but all very nice, There's only one general store in the town center and its opening hours are bizarre, so come prepared with daily necessities if you have room for them. Some of the hikes can de demanding and you may need to climb through fields of volcanic rock. Sheer drops are the norm and children or pets must be supervised at all times. There's a landing pad near the main church where a medevac helicopter can land in case of an emergency. Hope you enjoy Capraia as much as we did. We're planning our next vacation there as we speak.
