FAQs about hotels in Lombardy

Sophisticated and Serene

The diverse region of Lombardy touches the 3 largest Italian lakes: Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. Their beautiful shores house many Lombardy luxury hotels and even more luxurious celebrity residences.

The rich and famous also flock to Milan, one of the world’s fashion capitals, where designer boutiques are found alongside La Scala opera house and the iconic San Siro football stadium. To the south, Pavia is best known for its elaborate monastery, while Monza to the north-east hosts the F1 Italian Grand Prix and World Superbike Championship.

Nearby Bergamo is the hub for cheap flights to Milan and it also has a historic old town, while to its east is peaceful Lake Iseo. A smaller lake is located by Varese, and artificial lakes also almost entirely surround the important medieval city of Mantua, seat of the Gonzaga court during the Renaissance.

Brescia to the north-west has monuments dating back to Roman times, while Cremona to the south-west has an impressive cross-shaped cathedral and huge belltower. This beautiful city is on the Po, Italy’s longest river which forms part of the Lombardy border.

Bergamo is one of those Italian cities that quietly surprises you — small, elegant, and incredibly atmospheric. Here’s a concise review: ⭐ Overall Impression Bergamo feels like two cities in one: Città Alta (Upper Town): A beautifully preserved medieval hilltop town with cobblestone streets, Venetian walls, and sweeping views. Città Bassa (Lower Town): Modern, lively, and easy to navigate, with great cafés, boutiques, and parks. 🌿 What Makes It Special The Venetian Walls: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, perfect for golden-hour walks. Piazza Vecchia: One of the most picturesque squares in Italy — calm, historic, cinematic. Food: Casônsei (local stuffed pasta), polenta taragna, and incredible pastries like polenta e osei. Ease of Travel: Small airport (Orio al Serio) makes it a convenient base for exploring Lombardy. 🎨 Atmosphere Quietly elegant, genuinely local, and less tourist-heavy than nearby Milan. Perfect for slow travel, good meals, and peaceful walks. 📌 Who Will Love It History lovers Foodies Couples looking for a romantic weekend Anyone who likes walkable, scenic towns

We visited the first week of November so it was not overcrowded. Don’t think it would be good during the height of the travel season. That said, we were not aware that the ferries stopped running completely in November. So if you visit them and want to see other towns around the lake having a car would be helpful. But we made the best of it by visiting the thermal baths and spa in Sirmione instead.

Lovely few days on Lago di Garda/Desenzano.

Lovely few days on Lago di Garda/Desenzano. The weather was great for walking and exploring (early November - 55-60F degrees). Plenty of tavernas/pizzerias and pastecerrie to grab breakfast /lunch/dinner. We enjoyed having a late afternoon drink in Piazza Malvezzi. It was offseason, so it was very quiet with few crowds (which was the appeal for us). We took a day trip to Sirmione, which was more crowded and touristy (Castello Scaligero and Grotte di Catullo were incredible sites to visit). Recommend this trip!

Close to the metro station, supermarket, small stores en small restaurants. Clean & nice apartment, nice and friendly owner and good communication. But unfortunately the apartment walls are not good insulated so we can still hear our neighbors conversations and their dogs barking at night making it difficult for us to sleep.
