We had a great stay at Shoraiso for our honeymoon in December. Service is unparalleled and the staff are doing above and beyond to make us feel like home without being intrusive. We love the elephant decor of the room and the beautifully landscaped garden, and the private onsen is definitely the highlight of our trip. Breakfast and dinner are included and the food is just exceptional (very tasty with fresh local ingredient and creative presentation). The location is quite convenient - 45min train from Nagano to Yudanaka station and hotel is just a few min drive away (the hotel can arrange pick up). Monkey park is quite close (around 15min taxi away). Overall we couldn’t recommend this hotel more!

The food was awesome. Room large for japan. Staff tried their very best with any request. Ski hire was the best quality, and the ski hire staff really knew their stuff. The reception offered discount lift tickets. We arrived in a blizzard and could not access the resort. They sent a vehicle at no expense to pick us up some distance away. We were so grateful after a day sitting on a non moving bus.

Location was good, about 25 minutes drive to the ski slopes and 10 minutes drive to the town. They provided ample wide variety of drinks to unwind after the hitting the slopes. The lounge is fitted with camping furniture.

We pre-booked breakfast, which was mostly Japanese style buffet, although a small selection of croissant and cereal available. Pre-booked dinner was Fabulous! Hotpot & DIY BBQ style meat with soups and veggies each night. Different variations for each of the 3 nights we were there. Definitely recommend pre-booking meals as nowhere close/easy to go. Staff - AMAZING. Even with small amount of English - very easy to communicate. Ski/clothing/gloves/helmet hire very easy to access in hotel but quite dated, although fine for 2-3 days of skiing. We had to buy lift tickets across the road at lift ticketing office, which was simple. Onsen absolutely fabulous. Beautiful shampoos/conditioner etc provided. Robes available in hallway shelves, along with help yourself green tea at any time. Bus stop 1 minute walk away. Great family hotel.

    We loved everything about our stay. The staff very warmly welcomed us. Our room was big and the futons very comfy. The food served at dinner and breakfast was tasty and delicious. The onsen was wonderful with a beautiful outside area. The location next to historic onsen is also great. They also provided us a free shuttle ride to the Snow Monkey Park (you take the bus on the way back but beware of the schedule because we waited 2 hours to head back to Nagano). Our only regret was that we couldn’t spend one more night at the ryokan. One night was too short.

    Hands down the greatest place we've ever stayed at in Japan. The staff were extremely friendly, paying attention to personal touches, and making you feel valued and welcome at all times. The room was beautiful, with comfortable bedding, and the food in the restaurant is delicious and great value for money. The friendliness of the staff was however unlike we have ever stayed before.     The staff, an adorable family, really go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. With fresh sheets, towels and yukata supplied during your day outing, absolutely delicious breakfast and eternal and sincere smiles, these people have won our hearts, despite the language barrier. The outside onsen is absolutely amazing, especially after dark. The room is spacious, traditional and has two separate seating areas.

    Everything is perfect. The staff are very kind and sincerely helpful. Location just 5mins walk from Yudanaka station. You can take the bus to Snow Monkey park and Shiga Kogen Ski resort from there. Breakfast and Dinner are very good choices and delicious. Indoor/ Outdoor Onsen are so good. Love it so much.

    For a tourist location, it was hard to find restaurants open, or willing to seat us (a party of five). But in general the food was good and the location was great for hot springs and access to the snow monkey park.

    The Onsen hot springs experience was unique and for anyone wanting to see how the Japanese hold this aspect of their beliefs in such high regard this area is a perfect example and for a couple of days you can immerse yourself in a different cultural and culinary experience that will be the highlight of your holiday and the truest insight of this unique way of life.

    Great little town as a base for seeing the amazing snow...

    Great little town as a base for seeing the amazing snow monkeys. The walk to the monkeys was very pleasant (but it is advisable to wear wellingtons as it is very mucky). There are many small Ryokans in the town - sadly all of varying standards. Our recommended one was Tsuyuru Ryokan. Great little place run by the amazing Yoko.
