- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Excellent - What previous guests thought, 655 reviewsGreat staffs, very attentive and helpful, their English is pretty good, too. We stayed in the Annex Wing, which is the renovated one. The building looks old but the room is very well-equipped with modern facilities. The room is also very clean and spacious. The window offered us a peaceful view over the front yard of the hotel with mountains in the back and autumn foliage. Our booking includes breakfast and dinner. Both are delicious with fresh ingredients. The menu is a bit limited though, in terms of variety of food, and we need to pay extra for some dishes. Still, we were happy with the size of the portions and quality of food. Last but not least, PERFECT location: just next to Shinkyo Bridge and a few steps away from the main Shrines. We could visit all of the main attractions on foot. There are also bus stops in front of the hotel, from which we can go to Chuzenji Lake as well as Nikko station. Overall, we enjoyed our stay a lot and felt very welcomed at Nikko Kanaya Hotel.Guest review byThu TrangVietnam
- From $379.80 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 178 reviewsOur stay at Itamuro Onsen was truly exceptional. Words can hardly capture how special this place is. Surrounded by exquisite nature, beautifully curated furniture and ceramics, a sophisticated art library, and gardens designed by renowned artist Kishio Suga, it was a memorable experience. The onsens were perfect for the relaxation you need after spending some days in a busy city like Tokyo. A special thanks to Koki, who kindly showed us around Suga's museum and shared insights about the special project that is Itamuro. We're already looking forward to returning soon!Guest review byRafaelBrazil
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Excellent - What previous guests thought, 1,031 reviewsThere was an issue with our payment with Booking.com prior to our stay but I couldn’t reach the costumer service so I reached out to the hotel via email. A staff there replied soon saying I needed to contact the company but he also reached out and sorted out for us. Everyone was unbelievably nice and helpful while we were there as well. There are 3 bath places, clean and all nicely equipped with cool shower heads, shampoo bars, facial lotions, hair dryers etc. Breakfast and dinner buffet were amazing, so many things to choose from, we ate so much!Guest review byShuheiJapan
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very Good - What previous guests thought, 375 reviewsThe food in the restaurant was amazing. Dinner, including seasonal specialties, was absolutely delicious, and the table service western breakfast (which we were not expecting), was fantastic. All rooms are lakeside, although it might be difficult to see the lake itself through the leaves during summer. We had a connecting door between our two rooms, and all the rooms have balconies as well. The outdoor onsen was lovely. With dinner and breakfast included in our room rate, the overall value was exceptional.Guest review byJeniferJapan
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 6.5Pleasant - What previous guests thought, 157 reviewsThere are many activities to do like Karaoke, Table Tennis, Game Center, Body Massage and Foot massages etc. Room is spacious with nice veranda. There are a number of onsen to choose from. Outdoor onsen is great. Provision to reserve a private onsen is a good point. Good selection of food for the buffet dinner and buffet breakfast.Guest review byKristinaJapan

The Toshugo shrine was amazing and well worth the trip.
The Toshugo shrine was amazing and well worth the trip. If you travel on to Takayama I recommend seeing the one tenth scale model of the shrine complex which is almost unbelievable in its detail and precision. Nikko is quite a sleepy town and many restaurants shut very early so I recommend making a reservation. The Nikko pass is worth purchasing, we enjoyed a day sightseeing on the local buses and trains. We had an outstanding dinner at Global Table, located on the Main Street in Nikko, well worth booking this for an unforgettable experience with Chef Ishida.Guest review byJeffreyUnited Kingdom - 10
We liked the room it was quite spacious.
We liked the room it was quite spacious. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel was an easy bus ride from the main station and there were many restaurants nearby. The breakfast offered a lot options both Japanese and Western. The staff were very helpful finding some bus information and lending us umbrellas and adaptors.Guest review bySusanAustralia - 6.0
Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people.
Nasu is well known and loved by Japanese people. The Emperor has a summer house here as it tends to be cooler in summer. It’s little known by westerners and therefore is not catered to westerners. Parts of Nasu are very beautiful and other parts are set up for families - eg the zoo and the Dairy farm. There are some lovely restaurants and places to visit here but you really need a car to do it.Guest review byDeltaBegaAustralia - 8.0
The best thing about Nasushiobara is the hot springs.
The best thing about Nasushiobara is the hot springs. It has the Shiobara hot spring village, which has a rich spring quality and has been loved by royalty and literary masters. You can enjoy the traditional hot springs surrounded by nature in spite of the easy access from Tokyo on the Tohoku Shinkansen, which is just an hour away from Tokyo. Each hot spring in the city is different in scale and taste, but it is an adult resort where you can spend your luxurious time by soaking in the hot spring to your heart’s content.Guest review byBestUnited Kingdom - 10
This quiet gem is worth the trip!
This quiet gem is worth the trip! It’s a one hour bus ride on a very clean bus to arrive from the airport to a train station connection. There is so much rich history here, beautiful things to see and wonderful food to discover! Home to the oldest school and strongest shogun clan. Samurai parade in February if you can handle the cold. 10/10 come visit Ashikaga!Guest review byScalero - 10
Our trip to Nikko was nothing short of magical.
Our trip to Nikko was nothing short of magical. The town is surrounded by some of the most beautiful forests and breathtaking waterfalls I’ve ever seen. Every corner feels like stepping into a postcard—lush, serene, and full of natural wonder. The town itself has such charm, with its cozy streets, warm hospitality, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down and simply enjoy the moment. We stayed for three nights, which gave us time to explore, but we truly wish we had stayed longer. There’s so much more to see and experience, and the beauty of the area leaves you wanting to return.Guest review byTracyUnited States - 8.0

The Nasu Kaido is a famous and really scenic road that goes from the lowlands of Nasu town all the way up to the Nasu mountains, and it's beautiful to drive up - if you have a car. The road is a two lane highway that (in Summer) is very busy and not intended for bicycle or pedestrian use when you get to the uphill portions of the road, so be sure to use a vehicle or public transportation if you want to go further up it. The public transportation options are present - you can take the Shinkansen to NasuShiobara Station, then take the bus to the Nasu Mountain Ropeway, then take the ropeway to the near top of one of the mountain peaks and hike from there. It's a good venture, though if you try it on the weekend, be sure to check when the last buses operate, or else you might have to take a taxi.Guest review byLeeUnited States - 10

Ashikaga was a great place to visit, as everything was really interesting and nothing felt trivial. It had just the right amount of stuff. The famous flower gardens of course, but also the Bannoji temple, first school, and the surrounding hills/mountains (if you like hiking). It is really easy to get around the area as well.Guest review byMitchell
