- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 439 reviewsWhen we arrived, the hotel staff immediately carried our luggage to the room. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. That evening, it happened to snow heavily, and we went to the outdoor hot spring pool while enjoying the snowfall. Both breakfast and dinner were wonderful, with the waitress explaining the ingredients used in each dish. The famous Iya Kazura Bridge and Biwa Waterfall is just walking distance. It’s a hotel with great value for money, and our whole family loved it!Guest review byPearlTaiwan

You can enjoy private bath while birdviewing the whloe valley. Total 2 public onsen, the very special one is located in the bottom of the valley, can only arrive via cable car, a very special expericen: drive the cable car by yourself, feel the so so so natural onsen. Once in a life time... All staffs are very helpful & experienced. Food is tasty and innovative. All perfect!Guest review byMILANOChina
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 367 reviewsThe valley is beautiful and the hotel itself looks cozy and authentic. All the facilities were great and the views from rooms and onsens were incredible. All the stuff as well as the owner were very welcoming and courteous. And the owner beautifully sang us local song. Overall it was pleasant and relaxing experience, that we will remember for long. (Would 100% recommend booking a special dinner)Guest review byElizavetaRussia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 58 reviewsFabulous hotel in the countryside by a river. There's nothing much around it, but everything you need is inside - restaurant, shop, vending machines, and of course, the onsen. Our room was large, with a view over the river. The restaurant had many options for dinner and was inexpensive, and the food was delicious. The included breakfast was also great.Guest review byRalphAustralia

Tokushima is a nice and vibrant city, that gets the most of its hype during the great Awa Odori Matsuri, held in mid August. If the temperatures are too hot for you, you can still see Awa Odori performances all year around. From Tokushima is also easy to reach Naruto, with its famous whirlpools.Guest review byGiorgio_EItaly - 10.0

A small town set in a valley surrounded by steep forested mountains and a majestic river Gateway to Iya Valley and other stunning sights. No shortage of top class food options and bars (particularly Casual Bar for great fun and karaoke and Cafe Addcolor). And the locals are some of the very nicest and generous people I have met. Can easily spend days just walking around the town and hidden laneways to shrines and spectacular scenery. I will definitely come back.Guest review byFulford-Smith - 10.0

Anan itself isn't a sightseeing spectacle - a quiet little town with all the normal amenities and such. However, its proximity to multiple important temples on the Shikoku 88 can't be overstated. You're near Temple 18-23, accessible through some combination of bus, train and walking, and that's super convenient. Even if you're not doing the whole pilgrimage, visiting Tairyuji on top of the mountain is super interesting, Yakuoji is beautiful and in one of many small seaside towns, and the whole experience can be a wonderful 3-4 day trip full of unique sights!Guest review byJ-MCanada - 10.0

Traditional Japanese Futon, Tatami Mat room. Clean and tidy facilities, homely lounge area, and private dining room, a wonderful Japanese breakfast was served in the morning by the friendly, personable, and well travelled host. Caters to Pilgrim walk enthusiasts, Cyclists, and anyone else seeking a traditional experience. Would love to stay in this quiet seaside town again.Guest review byRahnNew Zealand - 10.0

Tokushima Prefecture is pretty much off the beaten track for foreign visitors to Japan. If you are hoping to have a real Japanese experience, and avoid the crowds, Tokushima, along with other 'rural' regions of Japan are the perfect places to visit.Guest review byAngusJapan - 10.0

Great area and plenty to see, a car is a must to get around so you can get to all the places out of the way. It was winter so we were restricted on walks and things to visit. Love to go back in the Spring or the Fall to experience a whole new worldGuest review byKarenAustralia - 10.0

Such a hlpful place to start our time in Shikoku and the information centre was beyond brilliant - even above the standard of the other cities which have also proven to be so helpful. Great place to start our Shikou 88 pilgrimage and we rather regretted cutting our nights from 5 to 3 so that we could also visit Naoshima.Guest review byJamesAustralia - 8.0
To say the Iya valley is beautiful would be an...
To say the Iya valley is beautiful would be an understatement. The vine bridges, the scarecrow village and gorges are pretty much all you'll hear about and for good reason. They're the main attraction and the reason people go. It's all about the nature and a handful of curiosities like the Yokai museum. While not the tourist powerhouse of big cities like Kyoto, it does kind of live off of its "in the know" tourists. A new generation of younger entrepreneurs are trying to revitalize the area and transform it into something more in line with their modern sensibilities. Travel is not easy and requires a lot of planning and preparation. Buses are extremely rare and trains as well. Bad weather can throw a wrench into your plans and mess up everything. Renting a car almost a must in order to visit the more far away spots, but a strong and experienced cyclists could probably do it - maybe. Those hills and mountains aren't always easy! And those trucks get a bit scary. I stayed in Ikeda-cho, one of the bigger areas of Miyoshi city but still a bit of a one horse town. But one thing is has going for it is that you can follow the Yoshino river for an 80km ride into Tokushima city. On a nice day, it's one of the best bike rides you could do.Guest review bySylvainJapan
