I highly recommend this hotel especially for those who prefer to travel independently without guides. Here you will not only be able to relax, but also will always be under the care and protection. The hotel staff will help you in any situation, no matter what time of day it is and no matter how far you are from the hotel. What else is important for me when choosing a hotel: quietness, comfortable bed, shower with normal water pressure and temperature, good breakfast. All of those I found in Rock Hyrax hotel. And even more. The hotel staff saved me when my car broke down in a remote area. And when I finally got to the hotel at about midnight, a warm dinner was waiting for me in my room. And they absolutely refused to include it in my bill. It was very touching. I felt as if I had come to my parents' house. Special thanks to Ms Mercy for her care and for hospitality!

Easy to access location just off the main highway and the proximity to Nakuru town allowed us to tour Nakuru sites while transiting from the hotel. The breakfast offered great variety and was varied for the length of our stay. Dinner was also tasty and the dining area is well kept. The rooms were fitted with double beds and an additional single bed, offering a great and comfortable space for accommodation. We also got cleaning every day and a lovely fireworks display for new years' eve. The board games available at no extra charge are an added advantage and so are the bicycles. One can cycle to lake elementaita for a small fee. Excellent place overall.

We really enjoyed our stay at the lodge. The huts are spacious, very beautiful and clean. The staff was very friendly, for Valentines days dinner we even got to meet the owner who was very super friendly and made our stay as comfortable as possible. Nice pool and dinner area. We also got to visit the orphanage of Ziwa bush lodge which was a unique experience (make sure to bring sweets!) Can highly recommend.

The hotel rooms are big and spacious, clean with comfortable beds. The breakfast and meals served at the hotel were delicious and mouthwatering. A lot of activities to do at the hotel and is perfect getaway from the hustles and bustles of the city for sports and nature lovers. The hot water bottle to manage the cold was a brilliant idea keep it up.

My friend and I stayed here in October for a few nights. It was lovely. We were upgraded to a really nice safari type tent room which was very cool / cosy. The whole place had such a nice, peaceful vibe. The staff were great - so helpful, especially Amos, Diana and Thomas. Highly recommend staying here

We loved the breakfast spread and the ambience in general. Everything was perfect except for a small incident at night were the upstairs neighbours played music way too loud. However the issue was resolved after calling the reception. Will definitely come back !

I loved everything until the moment when, during checkout, i was told that since I had prepaid on this platform and they hadn’t received the payment yet, I needed to pay the entire sum a second time otherwise I wouldn’t be allowed to leave the premises. I ended up paying a second time just because I had errands and am now disputing with the hotel for a full refund.

It is a great place to be with lot of facilities making it convenient for a weekend get away- the road is great, smooth though with traffic you may experience a bit of jam. Lots of option for eating and places to visit including Menengai, Hyrax hill, Lord Egerton castle and Njoro caves for hikes and picnicking experience

Getting to Gilgil is not very easy especially on Fridays...

Getting to Gilgil is not very easy especially on Fridays evening because of the traffic at the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway. If using personal, I recommend you leave Nairobi by noon. It will be a smooth sail. Nyama choma and grilled chicken are what you should order when there. The grill masters over there rearly miss on those options. Fun activities would be visiting Lake Elementaita and strolling around.

Web site a bit misleading as it appears to be on the lake but in fact there is no lake access but a tiny view of it if you walk to the far end of the garden and peer through the trees. Garden very over grown and has run down feel. Lovely lady who runs the place who did everything she could to welcome us. Quite basic room but value for money. A few campers - basic breakfast available

Great place to visit, and a good chef (Kibunja) who cooked delicious meals. The pool is right behind the villa so you can easily switch to swim mode. The hotel has well manicured grounds to walk around and enjoy the view of the Lake.

The food was great, the hot showers amazing. The views from our room was perfect .... could see the park well. The staff were all pleasant, and helpful. The lodge organised a tour guide for us.... Patrick was amazing and very patient on the game drive.... we were happy with the drive. Agnes was always very reassuring and always ready to help. The front office staff always very welcoming. We got to the lodge very late on the day of arrival, and Waithera at the front desk, kept engaging with us until we got there. She was very encouraging. The kitchen staff had kept dinner for us even that late. Thank you so much. Definately I place I would love to return to.

The hotel itself is located just past Gilgil town off the main highway and therefore easily accessible. It is just right accross lake Elementaita and the view is great from the hotel. Nakuru is also roughly 30 minutes drive away and therefore one can visit Nakuru National Park and Menengai crater without much of a hassle from here. There are also excellent Restaurants/hotels located not too far from here and on the scenic hills if one wants to explore Gilgil further. It is a surprising Gem. However, make sure to carry everything you need as there are no major supermarkets around.

Compared to Nairobi, it is a slower pace but that is the point. Getting a tour of the lake was the highlight of my trip. Next time, I want to explore Crescent Island fully. It only takes a couple of days to fully see everything there if you plan well.

Kabarak University Nakuru town campus is one of the areas I visited and was utterly impressed by how clean, well-constructed, strategically situated, warm-welcoming and beautiful place it is. Their buses are relatively new and comfortable. The eateries surrounding this campus offer great fish and fresh juices. Westside Mall was a blast and Bolt taxi services are very helpful especially in the night. I will avoid a short vacation next time; everyone needs at least 6 days to really experience the good side of Nakuru alias Naks-Vegas..
