I absolutely loved this place and I highly recommend it! The rooms are spacious and clean with a comfortable bed, and the bathroom has some real hot shower. The swimming pool is very nice to enjoy after a hike. The place is surrounded by nature and quiet, and at a walking distance from the best restaurant (Kenoli) and from the best spa (Serendip), and also at 20 min walk from the entrance of the fortress of Sigirya. You can get free bottled water anytime. The place is safe as there is always someone at the entrance. The owners are also very kind, this place is full of good energies and very peaceful. Thank you for everything 😊😊😊

Bernard and the staff were incredibly nice. Bernard helped to organise our four day itinerary with sunrise and sunset hikes to Pidarungala and Lion rock. Furthermore he helped to organise a wonderful cooking class and a Safari. I can't emphasise enough how good a time we had. There are also a couple of cool restaurants right next to the hotel. The stay was amazing, the hotel was clean and we did also have some time to enjoy the pool. I highly recommend this hotel.

Amazing due to several reasons: - super close to sigiriya city - at the same time very quiet in a large property without any neighbors - most importantly: it felt like sleeping directly in the nature with beautiful views into the park. You can hear birds sing in the morning, we spotted peacocks and several other local animals.

He helped us plan our days, suggested things to do, arranged everything we needed, and was always checking in to make sure we were having the best possible stay. His dedication and patience made our trip effortless. But it wasn’t just them — every single staff member we met was phenomenal. The housekeeping team, the restaurant staff, the front office, and everyone behind the scenes — every one of them greeted us with a smile, asked how our day was going, and made us feel like valued guests. Their warmth was so genuine, and it was clear they take real pride in their work. We loved our stay at sigiriya village and would love to come back ! The staff were so welcoming and kind. The room was lovely and spacious, we had a lovely terrace which we sat and watched all the wildlife. The breakfast was great - something for everyone we enjoyed evening cocktails by the pool! I mentioned in passing to someone that it was actually our honeymoon and we came home to a lovely message on our bed! it was all perfect (amazing location too!)

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but...

I didn’t come to Sigiriya to explore the town itself, but purely for the iconic Sigiriya Rock—and it was absolutely worth it. The experience was incredible, with stunning views from the top. My friends and I climbed up for sunrise, which I highly recommend as the best time to go. Just be prepared: there are a lot of stairs—some carved directly into the rock, others metal and uneven. We visited in November just after the monsoon, so it was warm and the climb had us sweating buckets. If you plan on taking those perfect social-media photos, bring a spare T-shirt… or do what I did and let AI handle the magic! Although the ascent was tough and left us literally out of breath, the moment we reached the top made it all worth it. The views were truly breathtaking—quite fitting, since the climb already took my breath away.

A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree view points. But if it rains it will ruin your plans. So make sure you depend on weatherly and visit Matale when it shows many continuous sunny days. Even on cloudy forecasts do not visit as all mointain tops then will be covered and you will not see the sights. when it is humid leaches also will be active and will become a painful experience.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed for two nights in the end as we got to sigiriya late. This meant we ate dinner one night at the little hut which wass great, climbed the rock, then moved on to the habarana which was also interesting to wander and eat.

We chose not to climb Sigiriya (having just recovered from Adam's Peak!) but instead chose the much shorter Pidurangala which afforded a fabulous view of Sigiriya. Highly recommended. A visit to the Bawa hotel, Heritance Kandalama, is well worth it as an insight into the brilliant architectural mind of Geoffrey Bawa.

Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale. As I just stayed one day which was not sufficient to visit all the places. Among them where I went were also hampered due to the rain at time to time. Generally Matele was quit good tourist destination if it is planned well with couple of days.

The weather is very calm.

The weather is very calm. Recommended time to start climb is 5.45 AM. So worthy to watch the surroundings from top of the Sigiriya. You can learn a lot about Sigiriya. You can get a guide if you want from the entrance.

Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy,...

Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. We stayed there for 4 Nights and could cover the heritage sites easily. Dambulla Caves are a must-see and so is Sigiriya (just 16 Kms. away). Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are around an hours drive but Dambulla is much well-connected and less touristy.
