HungaryGreat place, not far from the main road in a very lovely, beautiful and small town. The price is reasonable. The best things in the room were the view on the town square and the soap - tasty aroma and the skin after soap was very soft.
The staff was kind and helpful.

We liked absolutely everything. If you would like to have real experience of wild swimming, fishing, hot tub, sauna, barbeque, tranquillity, and 5 star customer service (for real), you are in the right place.
Algirdas and Viktor are treasures. Welcoming, helping, advising, and anything you ask they are there. Guys, keep going and shining, you are the best.

The best place to stay and get a rest in Kazlu Ruda. Staff was really helpful and nice towards us, and even our per dog. Will for sure return for another stay.

We did travel from Vilnius to Tauragė, then Šilutė, Telšiai...
We did travel from Vilnius to Tauragė, then Šilutė, Telšiai and Last big city was Marijampolė. We were amazed how good looking is this city, I mean parks, walkways, streets in city and surrounding areas were well maintained. The people were amazing too.

I went looking for the birthplace of my grandparents.
I went looking for the birthplace of my grandparents. So I was on a mission. I did not find many tourists there. It is a small town.
I did go to the cemetery. I would have liked to know if there was a list of graves somewhere that I could have searched through before arriving. I do not speak Lithuanian and I found many people did not speak English. But everyone was very helpful despite the language barrier. My fault not theirs that I couldn't understand or read the signs.
The bus service was convenient to get to and from the city. I didn't know what services were available within the city. I walked wherever I needed to go.
We ate in a nice restaurant that seemed fairly new, Kavine Imperata. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious.

We ( 4 family members) travelled for a family Christening in...
We ( 4 family members) travelled for a family Christening in near-by village. Other family members stayed elsewhere in and around Marijampole.
There are some lovely parks and riverside walks, both in the centre and on the outskirts.
It was clean and public areas apeared well maintained. It felt a safe town to walk around
We did not have the time to visit any 'tourist' hotspots e.g. museums but would love to find out more about the history of Marijampole and Lithuania. It was interesting, however, to view older Eastern Bloc buildings alongside modern buildings
We used a hire car so can't say if the public transport is easy to use. Roads MUCH quieter than UK and good condition.
There were adequate shops, both chains and indiviuals
We used local restaurants and cafes close to accomodation, all adequate for our reasonable elementary needs
We have all said we would gladly go back to Marijampole and to also stay in Vilnius as part of a longer trip
( NB- most of photos taken had family members in so not appropriate to add to review, henc the not-very-exiting pics )

Marijampolė seems to be a wonderful place!
Marijampolė seems to be a wonderful place! Tiny old streets, original buildings, town squares decorated with flowers and statues, fantastic drawings on the walls. We always pass it while driving back to the Netherlands, but this lovely city is more than worth of paying a longer visit.
