Spent a day exploring wellington, strolling along waterfront...

Spent a day exploring wellington, strolling along waterfront, Mt Vic, Te-Papa, cable car to botanic gardens. Second day we drove up the Hutt valley, Lower Hutt, wine tasting experience in Martinborough, a walk and ice cream in Greytown. Stayed at the Movenpick hotel, enjoyed the central location on edge of CBD, walked to Cuba street twice and enjoyed two great meals, first night at El Matador, great woodfire cooked steak meal and Mojito's, perfect. The second was a Thai meal at Yor Yak, fresh and delicious, the food was great, but I won't recommend the alcohol, spirits 30mls in large glass, tasted like soda water sorry! Just be aware but don't stop yourself going there, the food will make you smile and very reasonably priced. 3 nights was perfect for us as we'd been before, sun was out, no rain, wellington wind but its a great city for an escape, glad we went back.

Lower Hutt has many and varied locations and experiences, Eastbourne and Petone have a distinctive feel. Walking and riding is very well catered for and there is no shortage of places to get food. The new cyc;leway to Wellington will be completed soon and offer a wonderful gateway to the city.

It's the ideal getaway for a short vacation.

It's the ideal getaway for a short vacation. There are numerous short walks and dining options. Henley Lake and the Millennium Reserve are particular favourites and for a longer trip Castlepoint is hard to beat.

Martinborough is a beautiful town.

Martinborough is a beautiful town. Would definitely love to visit again and recommend to other travellers. Unfortunately, we initially booked the wrong accommodation at Martinborough motel which was horrible. We did however find alternate accommodation which was lovely.

Everything within walking distance.

Everything within walking distance. However there's NO pedestrian crossings from the motel side of the road! I'm a bit slow with bad hips and I was taking my life into my hands to get across to the mall lol. Great little cafe called "Local Authority" under the council building next to the gym! Fantastic coffee and lovely staff!

Upper Hutt was a bit lack lustre, in terms of dining out, shopping and must do attractions. There needs a big push to promote activities from the locals to encourage out of towners to want to visit Upper Hutt.

We visited Greytown to see the Longbush cottage tulip...

We visited Greytown to see the Longbush cottage tulip display which didn’t disappoint, the gift shops in the character buildings of the Main Street are always worth a look and there are many nice cafes to choose from, we ate at The Offering and Kokodeli and would definitely go back.

A sweet beach with a great playground, coastal walkway, quick and easy to shops, cafes, and restaurants with lots of accommodation options very close by in a very nice town. All in all a great spot for a vacation overnight or two!

There is no Uber, only their local Taxi, which makes getting around without a car quite difficult They do have a lot of Beaches and Reserves close by, and when I stayed at the White House up the hill, I had an epic view with the best Sunset.

We went to visit family and enjoy the local amenities. There are a couple of good cafe/restaurants, although they were very busy and hard to get bookings at. Lots of great walks to be had around the area.
