We loved this Hotel! It is perfect for a relaxing getaway! One of the greatest things, the heated indoor pool is open 24h. Another great value is for sure the staff! From the moment I arrived at Espinheiro, I knew I was in for something special. Check-in was smooth and welcoming - room was spacious with a nice garden view. The amenities were exceptional and breakfast buffet was another highlight, featuring everything from fresh tropical fruits and made-to-order omelets to locally baked pastries and fresh-pressed juices. What truly set this hotel apart, though, was the service. Every staff member, from the concierge to the housekeeping team, went above and beyond. It is a place I’ll return to without hesitation and recommend to anyone seeking a memorable stay.

The team were amazing, Dario in particular assisted us with our parking in the morning so we didn't have to get up too early! Our room was large and beautifully appointed and the bed was outstanding and super comfortable. It is a relatively new hotel, and the quality of the furnishings and materials is outstanding. The staff in particular are proud of where they work and one of the team proudly told us the story of the original tiles on the stair well. Breakfast was good. Perfectly located with good access to all the sites (including a small walk to a local laundromat - which we can also recommend!)

FAQs about hotels in Alentejo

Castles, Cliffs and Countryside

Sleepy Alentejo is an agricultural region of rolling hills and cork plantations, south of the Tagus River. Many of the Booking.com accommodation options are Alentejo guest houses featuring traditional wooden beds with painted headboards.

The main city is historic Évora with its medieval cathedral, partly intact walls and remains of a Roman temple. There are also Roman remnants in Beja, with its hilltop castle and whitewashed houses, and Serpa, whose aqueduct forms part of the city walls.

Mértola is nestled in the Guadiana Valley Natural Park, while Portalegre is the gateway to the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park. Also here are beautiful Marvão, set on a steep escarpment and guarded by a castle, and Castelo de Vide whose castle is on a less-pronounced hill.

The South-West Alentejo and Vicentine Natural Park is on Portugal’s west coast and many Alentejo beach hotels are found in Vila Nova de Milfontes and nearby  Zambujeira do Mar, on a clifftop reminiscent of the Algarve.

By the Spain border, hilltop Monsaraz is partly enclosed by walls of a castle overlooking Alqueva Lake, formed by the dam downstream. Across the lake is the castle of Mourão, while to the north is Estremoz, known for colourful marble. East is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Elvas, whose 6 km aqueduct and 2 star-shaped forts are quite a sight.

From start to finish, our stay was absolutely wonderful. The staff were exceptional—attentive, friendly, and always willing to go the extra mile to meet our needs. We had an early morning checkout, and they thoughtfully prepared a delicious packed breakfast for our departure. We also loved exploring the beautiful property, enjoying the local wildlife, and taking part in the complimentary wine tour offered to guests. It was a truly memorable experience, and we would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.

Amazing quiet stay at a beautiful property. The staff were so kind and we were in love with Nina the resident cat. Super sweet kitty, we miss her already. The breakfast was very nice, all sorts of items so something for everyone. Dina was very lovely too, but all staff made us feel very welcome. Coffee machine, microwave and water boiler in our house was great. And the spa bath was also amazing in November/ December to stay warm. Thanks for the lovely days!

An interesting town, the centre enclosed within city walls. Some very pleasant squares, small and large. The castle is worth a visit, with views of the surrounding countryside and de Graça fort to the north. Entry tickets cheaper for over 65s, which is often the case in Portugal. We loved the Igreja das Dominicas with its unusual shape, amazing tiles and wall paintings. We wanted to go to the Museum of Modern Art, but it was closed for renovations. Went to the Fort of St Luzia instead, which was very interesting, particularly with its links to the Duke of Wellington and the Peninsular War. Some very good value restaurants and cafés. We went to the restaurant at our hotel (São João de Deus) and thought the food was excellent quality, with amazingly low prices for some delicious starters in particular.

Almograve is a beautiful town close to an amazing beach. We walked down the road to the beach to enjoy an amazing sunset. The weather was beautiful while we were there. ,

History, history, history, the perfect place for a walking tour with so much variety, and very good food plus friendly helpful service. The only drawback was the bus station, where a begger seems to hang out asking everyone for money, and the absence of an obvious persons selling bus tickets. You have to know to go to the bar to buy a ticket.
