The design and setback was amazing however do take note that there is no lift to assist with heavy and bulky luggage. Eateries are within walking distance, there is also laundry that you probably can do at the hostel which is 3 units away. Just ask them nicely, they will be happy to assist you with something. Overall stay was pleasant, very helpful and friendly staff.

Everything is great. We really love the hospitality here. The place is clean and wide enough for 4 of us. The hosts are nice and allow us to check in 2 hours earlier. We love the view, our room is facing the pool where we can chill around at night too. Recommended! Love it 😘❤️

Perfect place for calm vacation, it has it's own beach, which is cleaned every day. Very fulfilling breakfast one can't eat everything of it, and what is the most convinient you can get it any time in the day for late sleepers. Very beautiful and well maintained area with garden filled with flowers. Cozy clean swimming pool, if the sea got waves. Basically the staff can help you with any request. When we felt just snakish, did not want to have a full meal, they just made us a cheese sandwich, which was not on the menu, but so perfect for that moment. Uwe, the owner, helped with all kind of questions: where to go and how to get there, even called to the Songhla zoo and asked if they have Panda, cause we based our decision to go there if there were Pandas, but no, no Panda 😆 still worth a visit though. Restaurant have a lot of tasty food, the cook is great! Even svabian Spatzle, you can find there. I respect Thai food, but after 17 days of travelling around Thailand I really wanted European food, so we always came back for dinner to hotel's restaurant 😊 they have great Thai options too. The cook is Thai. Recommend this hotel with all my heart, 10 out of 10!

In January 2026 the town is still recovering from the floods...

In January 2026 the town is still recovering from the floods late last year. The water damage can be seen (and smelled) everywhere. More than half of the places Google Maps claims to be open are in fact not. Some are temporarily closed, others will never open their doors again. Whether it is due to the above or the proximity to Malaysia, I found the Hat Yai people to be less friendly than the average Thai person I have come across during my 90 days of travel throughout the country.

Sonkhla is a good place, not to many turist so the prises are also down, on food and closing ect, Compare to other places. in all a more relaxing atsomafaire her and not so tends, as other place have everything here as well

We were not here for sightseeing as were only doing a border run. It is a great location to stay if you need to re-enter Thailand. We will definately return in the near future and enjoy exploring the town.

Not much things to do except crossing the border from malaysia to thailand. Howver, there are many Halal food stalls, restaurants in the Night Market. There is Asian Cultural Village (but close early on Sunday?). Personally, I find that it's more of a drop-by place for me cos the reason I was there was to attend a cultural ceremony in Kodiang, Kedah abt 30 mins driving Danok-kodiang. Also head to hat yai (1 hour drive danok-hat yai). Places to chill out at nite include the clubs nearby M Village (beside M hotel), snooker club at the night market, the night market, etc.

The area is very nice.

The area is very nice. The beach nearby was very nice... as is typical for Thailand, there are many very nice restaurants and bars along the beach. One negative that is typical for Thailand is the traffic - many, many motorbikes most of which do not obey the traffic rules. As with any populated area of Thailand, you must drive very carefully to avoid accidents.

Good food and shopping price were reasonable.

Good food and shopping price were reasonable. Easy transportation with tuktuk. Central Hatyai was great. Asian night market was not as much good items as before...was a bit let down... We are a group of senior citizens, so we didn't travel much, we just enjoyed the food and shopping.

Great place to stay.

Great place to stay. We stayed on the island Ko Yoh, and it was perfect - really quiet and pretty. Lots of nice restaurants. There is a lot to see and do. We used it as a bit of a time to see things and relax in our accomodation.

Padang Besar is a border bazaar/market town that's been...

Padang Besar is a border bazaar/market town that's been around for a long time. It has the Malaysian-Thailand border running right through it now so there's a Malaysian side and a Thai side. Whichever side you're on, you can easily go through immigration (the Malaysian and Thai counters are literally next to each other). Just make sure you have your passport and check visa requirements beforehand, of course. I went to the Malaysian side. Locals from both sides of the border come here by the bus-loads to shop for housewares, food items, clothes, toys etc. My father is from Kedah, the state below Perlis, and back when he was a kid you would literally walk across the train tracks to the bazaar proper. His mother used to get all her kitchen and houseware needs here. As a traveller, you probably don't need any more clothes or pots and pans, but if you do, I love the kitchenware selections (I love cooking)! I just walked around and listened to the mix of languages being spoken, people-watched, sat down and ate at one of the many busy food establishments, then shopped for snacks (nuts, crackers, dried fruits, cookies etc.). Worth it, and cheap. I bought both to snack on and as "buah tangan" (literally "fruit from the hands" or travel gifts) for my family in KL.
