World class French colony-style hotel. Excellent location in a tropical garden with nice pool. Excellent food and a good breakfast buffet. Fantastic staff - very smiling and helpful. Different possibilities for massage. Can recommend head and shoulder massage. Hotel, restaurant and massage very much affordable. Staff very helpful when we had to visit Alliance Medical Center (also fantastic service and staff) after a fall. We were brought there by hotel staff and they assisted us all 2-hours we were there and brought safely back. Thanks a lot all at Settha Palace Hotel. We will definitely be back at Settha.

Excellent service from all staff, from reception to breakfast and the Stella Bar. The hotel has a great location with a beautiful river view. I had hoped for a room with a river view, but I still enjoyed the stunning scenery from the Stella Bar. Highly recommend trying the signature cocktails at the rooftop Stella Bar—each one is a delight! The Thai manager and her team are exceptionally welcoming, and the food, both at breakfast and at the Stella Bar, is fantastic. I will definitely visit again!

Wow! What can I say? There are not enough superlatives to do justice to this property. I would love to keep the secret of this wonderful place all to myself but that would be unfair to all those whose amazing efforts have brought this hotel to such an outstanding level. We have travelled throughout the UK, USA, Europe and extensively in SE Asia and we have never visited a better property than the Souphattra Heritage Hotel. The combination of a sympathetic heritage design, understated elegance and fine attention to detail, make this a 5 star + hotel. Everything is designed to offer luxury and privacy. From the marble and brass bathroom thyme to the old fashioned herring bone tiling techniques, it all comes together to create an amazing tasteful environment. The rooms are bright airy and spacious with high quality bedding and accessories. The facilities include a coffee shop, two restaurants, spa and beautiful pool area. All these areas continue to provide the same understated elegance common to the entire property. The staff all maintain the highest standards of professionalism while remaining engaging and friendly. Special thanks must go to Nouna, Nounee and Tookta who made our evenings at the bar such an entertaining and enlightening experience. My number one choice of hotel – ANYWHERE!!!!     The location of Mut Mee is unbeatable. It is right on the Mekong River promenade with no separation wall. You can walk directly from Mut Mee to the riverfront. Its a beautifully landscaped space, with plenty of greenery and sitting spaces in the shade. The architecture is also very rustic and adds to the laid back vibe of the place. They have a great menu list and an active kitchen which can cook up a hearty meal at short notice. The English speaking skill of the staff and management is very good, which is rare in this part of Thailand. They can also arrange motorbike rentals in you want to visit Sala Keow (7kms), explore the countryside along the Mekong River (recommended), or visit Phu Phrabat Historical Park (which I did), an underrated gem. The riverside promenade is worth exploring for its markets and eating places.

    Lovely clean spacious hotel room with great view over river at back. Ate at restaurant for evening meal which was good. Staff very attentive and helpful. We chose this hotel due to closeness to border into Laos. Staff arranged their hotel minibus van to Thai border crossing but can do trips to Laos as well. Quiet location which suited us.

    Wonderfully comfortable beds, incredibly helpful staff, retro-charme :) We extended our stay for another night, because we just liked the beds so much :D It feels like a hotel from a different era. The bathroom was very clean and the city center was just a 10 min walk away.

    Vientiane is a good place to have a night in between...

    Vientiane is a good place to have a night in between travelling via the trains. Sticky fingers is a nice cafe to eat and you can get around easily on tuktuks there. Recommend only a day as Luang Prabang is amazing and you won't want to leave.

    Sleepy small town by the river, relaxing if you come from a large city like BKK or VTE. Rent a bike and take a tour along the river. Don’t forget to visit the spectacular Buddha park (sister to the Vientiane version). It is a good stop to relax a few days on your way to / from Laos.

    Living in Udon Thani place makes for an easy trip to Laos to feed my gambling bug. Bit far from Downtown Vientiane, but there are numerous transportation options to get in to town from the border/hotel. * No fine dining places near-by, thus the need to travel in to Vientiane.

    Nice and clean.

    Nice and clean. Local Food at the night markets along the Mekong is relatively expensive. I suppose we were at the tourists food stalls. As for the tok tok, whilst there are prices printed on a laminated A4 it appeared high and open to negotiations. Can Laos tourist authorities ensure fixed reasonable prices. Bus fares are very reasonable and affordable. However there appeared a big discrepancy for bus fare from Vienteine Bus station to Friendship bridge (longer journey and inexpensive) compared to Bus service crossing the bridge which is so much shorter journey but so much higher in fares.

    It was bigger than I thought it was.

    It was bigger than I thought it was. Many temples further up in the mountains were definitely places to add to your list. I loved the views from the Mekong across to Laos, the markets in the town by the river, the night market by the station and of course all the temples were great to visit. I stayed at the Park and Pool resort which had great service, rooms and a nice pool.

    30 years ago I was last time im Vientiane. In the meantime it has become a monster of roads, concrete and glass -fronts, just like Bangkok it has now emerged into a meaningless Chinese city.: Asians want to be Europeans who came down from Tibet many years back.

    My husband and I stayed the night in Nong Khai on the way...

    My husband and I stayed the night in Nong Khai on the way from Bangkok to Vientiane and we're glad we did. We took the day train because we wanted to see some of the countryside. We didn't have a plan for crossing the border and getting to Vientiane so we chose to stay over night in Nong Khai - just enough time before noon checkout the next day to have a leisurely dinner, walk along the river, and consult our hosts on the easiest way to get to Vientiane. That turned out to be a taxi to the bridge, a bus across the bridge and a taxi to our hotel in Vientiane. Couldn't have been easier.
